Commercial Description:
Sundog is an ale whose amber color is as deep as the copper glow of a Lake Michigan sunset. Its Biscuit malt and Fuggle hops give it a toasty character and a subtle, malty sweetness. We believe Sundog is the deepest, richest amber you'll find anywhere.

12oz bottle. Pours a reddish-amber with a thin off-white head. Aroma is light and sweet, with notes of caramel, grain, roasted malt, and floral hops. Taste is medium-bodied and light, with a mild initial flavor of grain and roasted malt giving way to somewhat sweeter and more astringent hoppy finish. A simple summertime beer.

12 oz. single bottle from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Pours a nice amber color with a light tan/dark white head. Lots of aroma, bready notes. Tastes is okay, drinkable, but nothing too special about this beer.

Pours a clear amber with thin ring off-white ring of head. Lots of carmel aroma, bready, and a hint of smoke. Malty flavor and a bit astringent on the finish. Decent beer overall

Bottle purchased at Corral Liquors in Granite City, IL. Pours a lightly hazy copper with a finger of creamy off-white head that reduces fairly quickly to a thin skin. The nose is of toasted, cookie-like malt, salt and earthy hops; interesting. Light to medium-bodied and silky with a mildly bitter and dry finish; quite quaffable and pleasant on the tongue. Unfortunately, the flavor doesn’t quite live up to the mouthfeel. Sweet, toasted caramel malt with an odd phenolic supporting note finishing with a mildly bitter earthy hopped conclusion. This is better than many ambers that I’ve sampled, but overall, it left me wanting more.

Bottle smuggled back from NC on my last trip. Pours a clear amber color. Aroma of sweet caramel malt that comes through in the flavor pretty nicely. A faint bitter hop finish. Rather thin and not too complex after that though.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. Pours a copper color with a quickly diminishing fizzy head. Malty toffeish aroma. Taste is caramel malt, graininess and a metallic bitterness. Thin body.

Columbia, SC - Total Wine - 12 oz bottle. Dark orange, murky pour with a quickly fading white head. Cereal like aroma with some toffee accents. Flavor is decidedly sweet with some caramel accents, nuttiness, and some candied sugar - comes off bit artificial tasting though. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky.
