Rich roasted coffee notes and dark chocolate fill the nose. Flavor is coffee, molasses, and chocolate. A hint of hop makes a late appearance. This is not among the great stouts, but it isn’t that far from them. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2008 Bottle. Deep brown with a light brown/dark tan head. Nose of sweet roast and creamed plums, flavor of chocolate covered black cherries, cream, roast (with no astringency) and a strange bit of caramelized chocolate. Soothing, smooth, oily texture, frothy and full, little to no harshness or astringency. I’m actually surprised that I liked a New Holland beer, I had some pretty bad disasters from this brewery before. HomeBrewHawk (279), De Soto, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2008 12oz. bottle served in a shaker pint. Poured a deep brown with a slight tan head. Molasses/burnt sugar in the aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Lots of chocolate malt. Really long dry coffee finish. Maybe a little thin. Pretty easy drinking. Just enough hops to balance malt. Decent brew. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Bottle courtesy of JCB. Pours a very dark black with minimal tan head. Nice lacing. Nose is roasted coffee and malts with a hint of brown sugar. Palate is much of the same, roasted coffee beans and a touch of sweet malt with a slight bitter finish like a cup of black coffee. Wasn’t very sweet as I anticipated and the mouth feel was pretty thin overall given the appearance. Not a bad one, but nothing to write home about either. bassbuckeye (81), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Poored black with copper head. Roasted coffee, brazillian nuts and slight chocolate. Taste a little alchohal. Not bad but nothing stands out to me... I will finish the six pack though Sammy (4030), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2008 A blackish stout, minimal head. Faint roast, some malt in the nose. About average mouthfeel, which is below average for this style. Modest sourness. Drinkability is about average. A decent beer, but not best representation of style. gotohelunc (475), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2008 Bottle. Very dark red, nearly black. Small head sits there for the entire beer. Smells of creamy coffee. Nice roasty flavor with chocolate, sugar, and some mild hops. Real nice, simple, session stout. I wouldn’t mind keeping this one around all the time.
