Commercial Description:
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you'll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Pours a dark black with coffee colored head. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate maltiness, caramel and toffee. Flavor very similar to aroma with roasted coffe and chocolate malts with hints of oatmeal, caramel and toffee. Very quaffable.

this beer was pretty average for a stout. some nice roasted malts and nuts, but not too impresive.

Bottle from Sam’s. Dark brown with a small tannish head. Nose of roasted malts, nuts, and a bit of cocoa. Flavor is smooth, but lacks any kind of depth. Smooth palate with a slightly creamy moutfeel.

Bottle from Sam’s, Durham. Nice to have this brewer in NC now. This is a fine session stout, with a nice looking dark body - opaque, modest carbonation, minimal head - and a pleasing aroma. Sorta standard in most ways, the malts and mild roast you’d expect from the style. But just because it doesn’t exactly announce itself doesn’t mean it sucks. In fact, the smooth palate and moderate flavors make it pretty enjoyable; it’s not a meal. Not bad at all.

bottle from acknud: pours a dark chocolate brown with very little tan head. aroma is nutty and sweet chocolate, some good roast araoma also. the flavour is a cocoa powder earth flavour with some milk chocolate and roasty malts. i t finishes dry and odd chocolate. very strange flavours to me. not horribly bad but strange.

The beer pours a medium to dark brown with a light brown head. The aroma is of coffee, malt, and chocolate. The beer is extremely smooth in the mouth. The main flavors are coffee and chocolate with a bit of malt mixed in. The only complaint I have about this beer is it doesn’t have a great aftertaste. This beer’s flavor is on the lighter side for n oatmeal stout, but it’s not a bad beer.

Pours dark, with a good tan head. Aroma of malts, molasses, and coffee/chocolate. The taste is a good blend of coffee, chocolate, and the malt, with a hint f hop bite. No alcohol flavors that I could detect. This a a very decent full stout that goes down very smooth. But just not quite there for me to like it a whole lot.

Pours black with a dense tan head. Big coffee and molasses aroma. Coffee, liquorice, and chocolate dominates my taste buds. Nice to enjoy a lower alcohol beer that is still big on flavor.
