Commercial Description:
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you'll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

A Mes rate: 75cl Bottle at Chris O’s Fukito tasting.
Mid dark brown with a slim tan head. Very heavy yeast and way too many oats. Milky chocolate notes and slight grassy hops. Very nutty. Finish is quick and unrewarding. No finesse.

Bottle. Quite dry and nutty, with some light chocolate and also roasted malt notes. Didn’t seem to sweet to me, perhaps there is a bit of stickyness in here.

Pours very dark with a deep crimson hue when held to the light; it also has a good sized sudsy tan head. The aroma has vanilla, cream, roasted malt and acidic berry flavors. The taste starts with the roasted malt, sharp berries and light cream. the finish is more bitter and shows some lactic acid. An okay stout.

12oz bottle. Aroma: Roasted malt with a light graininess to it. Coffee, caramel, milk chocolate, oatmeal, and some light spice. Appearance: Dark brown in color with small walnut highlights. Beige colored head was medium sized and frothy with fair retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt upfront with notes of smoke, cola, coffee, brown sugar, and oatmeal. Roast flavor lingers for a long time. Neutral finish is neither dry or sweet. Palate: Medium-light bodied and a bit watery. Medium carbonation. Overall: One-dimensional. Some nice roasty flavors, but not much else. Body seemed a little light. Fair.

Twelve ounce bottle pours an opaque dark brown body with a small khaki head. Aroma of milk chocolate, oatmeal, and a hint of roast coffee. Very nice mouthfeel with smooth but grainy oats on a full medium body. Taste follows the aroma, with milk chocolate and oats dominant. Fruity hops and roasty bitterness add a nice complexity. Lots of oats in this one.

Dark brown glaze with dark amber edges. Delicate topping of sandy brown spongy foam sits about a finger high. Slips to a good skim thats always present and the lacing is super thin and boney fingered in fine strings and some spots. Aroma is lightly present of cocoa, burnt oaty sweetness, and some dry leafy hops. A bit of strange peppery heat lays within the alcoholic hints. Taste is pretty full with a good amount of heavy roasted malts, coffee ascents, partial oaty sweetness, burnt offerings of the baked goods variety, some dry chocolate rounds off the end as bitterness from roast and hops makes a good stand at the finish. Strong finish on this one. Quite complex and lasting with all sorts of roast, chocolate, and dryness ensuing for good length. The oaty girth is pretty solid as it warms and is quite nice at that point. Feel is just about medium with a smooth but fevered pitch of heft and carbonation bite. Nice tone to it and stays solid throughout without much empty areas to it. Grand stand finish with lots of complexing action in the roasty stuff. Once this warms up it becomes unholy good and very nice to drink. Lenghty broad flavors and plenty of oaty goodness. Just as any Oaty stout should have. Solid offering by New Holland. Very glad to see it here in MN now!
