Commercial Description:
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you'll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

There’s a lot of chocolate in the aroma and flavor. Also, some noticeable oat sweetness in there too. A pretty solid stout, no doubt.

Dark brown pour. Aroma was malty with a light, sweet coffee hint. Flavor was a lot of the dark, burnt malt. This one seemed under carbonated to me.

Pours a dark black with a light brown head. The aroma is a combination of chocoalte and roasted coffee. Nice creaminess to the body with flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, and a bit of hoppish bitterness.

I do not know if the meaty mushroom taste is done by esters/process or they just squished a few shrooms but it is gross. Oily near burnt roastyness. Bad mouth feel and finish.

12 oz bottle from Bello Vino in Ann Arbor, MI (December 2006) served above cellar temperature from a Corsendonk Christmas Ale glass. Huge-bubbled frothy deep tan foam dissipates quickly atop opaque ebody, leaving some spidery lacing.....nose is fairly "dark", mostly bitter coffee though with a bit of creamy milk chocolate and some limey earthy qualities thrown in for good measure.....alas the poetry is lost on me once it touches my lips, for ’tis watery and cardboardy, mostly dark bitter espresso with little traces of m’lady’s sweet charms about it, really quite dull and unadventurous, burnt and rather oily, the low carbonation not helping matters as it peters out into a tarry morass at the finish. Doesn’t do much to help this brewery’s already mediocre (in my heart) reputation.

Black color with medium whitish-tan head. Roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee and cream. Taste is dominated by coffee, roasted malts, chocolate. A bit thin, but overall a pretty good stout.

Bottle from cbkschubert; Nose of roasted coffee, cream, and malt; dark cherry brown with a tiny tan head; flavor of coffee, cocoa and a hint of smokiness.
