Commercial Description:
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you'll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Draught. At 2006 Michigan Brewers’ Guild Festival. Opaque brown-black, bubbly, with an average creamy tan head. Roasty and nutty aroma, a wee hint of cola - bitter, decent, not exceptional. Taste is nutshell bitter, roast malt, some dry hops and a hint of molasses in the medium-long finish. Unmemorable body and mouthfeel, somewhat dry, bitter lightly acidic finish - I was left with the impression it’s a tad soft and watery, nice bitterness though.

Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Black body with a small tan head (3+). Sweet mocha aroma with very mild roast. Thin, dilute roast and muted chocolate in the flavour. Average palate needs a bit more body for a stout in my mind. Pleasant but underwhelming. 7/3+/6/3/13

Bottle. Pours a very dark black body with a medium-sized creamy, tannish head. The aroma is quite pleasant - has chalky fruit, cocoa, and oatmeal. Sour malt flavour with mild chocolate and toffee roastiness. Good. Purchased at Bello Vino, Ann Arbor in April 2006.

This was a very ho-hum stout. It reminded me of Bell’s Java Stout as far as flavor goes, but it wasn’t that strong (or interesting). The pour was dark, with a tan head. The aroma was not good at all, and thankfully the taste didn’t match the smell. The flavors were plenty of coffee with a little bit of grassiness mixed in. Not a great product in my opinion, and there are much better stouts out there at this price."

Bottle - Pours oily dark brown/black with medium light tan head. Aroma is malty with chocolate and coffee. Palate was not as heavy as it poured. Medium in body with a touch of carbonation. Upfront taste is roasted coffee with some malt present. Follow through is bitter roasted coffee with a hint of chocolate sweetness. Aftertaste brings out dark chocolate notes and more roastiness. Overall this is a pretty good stout with heavy roasted coffee. Not the best stout I’ve ever had, but definitely not the worst.

"Yikes first from this brewery. Poured a dark brown color okay head. Aroma was weak couldn’t pick much out of it. Flavor was weak as well very watered down. Coffee was the strongest thing. ugh not a good showing"

OK stout - nothing to talk about. Definate coffee aroma and taste. Not much of a stout, more of a bland porter. Not a repeat buy.

Poured a brownish color, not black for sure. The head was almost white, very light tan. The aroma was hard to pick up, some coffee. The flavor was somewhat watered down, coffee the strongest, and light lactic notes at the end. Mouthfeel pretty light. Not a great beer, mediocre at best.
