Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Mar 21, 2008 Hard Liver ’08 Chestnut brown, opaque. Milk chocolate nose with light alcohol and toasty hops. Rather bitter, with some toasty, chocolate malts. Fun stuff. A bit boozy...but a tasty finish. bhensonb (2887), Woodland, California, USA Dec 20, 2007 Draft at the brewpub. Rich dark fruit aroma. Near opaque brown color with a lightly lacing tan head. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Very sweet dark fruit flavor (pruney) with roasted malt and arguably some floral hop. It is, perhaps, a near equivalent of Old Peculier. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jan 12, 2006 This was quite yummy. Lots of dark fruits, raisins, prunes and plums, with just the slightest bit of an almost kenya aa wineyness in the finish. Lots of nice brown sugar and candi notes are present throughout, with some molasses smoothed over fresh bread. Nice spicy hop bit when it is all said and done and I really enjoyed drinking this out of everyting else I tried. DA (2425), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Mar 27, 2005 On tap at the Lucky Lab barleywine festival 2005. Pours a very dark mahogany/brown with a small off-white head. Slight oxidation shows in the nose, with some fruity esters and some molasses. Taste was sticky sweet with just a touch of hops in the finish, fairly smooth all-around flavor with not much alcohol present. Angeloregon (1898), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 4, 2007 On tap at the Hedge House in Portland, Oregon--Ultra dark brown viscus body with a thin tan-gray gripping head. Potent hops and rich caramel malt nose. Big lacing in glass. Like a grapefruit soaked in chocolate and caramel. Warm, boozy, spicy hop finish. Yum!
