JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Oct 7, 2007 Draft nitro sample at the Hedge House, Portland. Creamy and fluffy with hints of vanilla and smaller hints of fresh roasted coffee. Baker’s chocolate in the finish. Thin for the style, but holding good amount of flavor.
stchloe (197), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 7, 2008 Ham ham ham. Nitro helps certainly but not enough to counteract a sweet musk. DA (2482), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Sep 1, 2008 On tap at the Hedge House. While this pours a bit light, sort of dark brown, glowing with crimson at the edges, the ability to see through this was more doppelbock then stout. The beer was well done though, nice roasted coffee flavors, soft licorice, and a light cherry note as it warms. Smooth on the palate and very well balanced stout. While a bit watery up front, the finish was nice. Angeloregon (2002), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 8, 2008 On nitro tap at Hedge House in Portland, OR--Poured a deep creamy black body with a bouncing beige head. Cascading layers of silkiness in mouthfeel. Body was a little thin with a little roastiness of the malts but mostly lacking a malt spine to accompany the big hop bitterness at the end. Still, a nice beer on the nitro tap. SuzyGreenberg (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 28, 2008 sampler @ brewery - dark brown and thin with slight head; aroma and flavor profiles very lacking; missing everything you want in a stout; coupled with the hopworks stout sampled on the same day, i probably had to two most blah stouts in all of portland!! boFNjackson (542), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 20, 2008 Tap @ their NW location... Poured near black, but more of a dark brown with a soft, beige head. Aroma is toasty with malt and sugar grains. Smooth feel in the mouth with chalky malt and sweet, caramel flavors. Finished dry and soft.
