I tried this in the bottle. I also tried the Bourbon Barrel Aged version at Portland International Beer Festival. I tried 13 beers there, the beers I tried averaged 3 tickets each. This is one was only 2 tickets and one of only three that I would buy again (and did)! I agree that the taste is hard to define. It’s very complex with a flavor character like an ESB, but very concentrated (thick) like a stout. Bourbon flavor is overkill, since it’s already complex enough.

Nov 21, 2009 Bottle. Pours a clear brown with a small beige head. Aroma is burnt, toasted malts, bread, caramel, doughy yeast esters. Flavor is burnt cereal, chocolate, nuts, and a little medicine. pretty good beer. Neat.

Nov 6, 2009 Bottled, pour deep dark amber/brown with faint red around glass with fluffy brown head, sweet malt with light nutty and roasted aroma with hints of dark sugars, full bodied with light sweetness up front large roasted quality noted mid way with finish of hop bitters in the end, very well balanced overall

Nov 5, 2009 22 ounce bottle, listed as special draft, not strong draft just like the picture, thanks to BrewDad. Pours a very nice dark brown/red color with a very thick foamy light beige head. A nice nose of earthy malts, caramel, light smoke. A sweet earthy flavor, caramel, almost no alcohol. A kinda odd, but not unpleasant earthy dry flavor in the finish- like really earthy chocolate. Nice brew.

Oct 19, 2009 Bomber courtesy of Kenb. Pours clear dark amber with a half finger light tan head that results in streaky lacing. The nose is roasted nuts, dark fruit and caramel. The taste is ash, smoky malt, dark caramel, roast and citrus hops with some pine in the finish. Medium semi creamy mouthfeel. Tasty brew – thanks Ken!

Oct 9, 2009 A cloudy, amber pour with an enduring head. Soy, vinegar, molasses, licorice, and smoked malt. Tangy, nutty, and hoppy with a touch of alcohol. Bottle is decent; draft is even better.

22 oz bomber from Roth’s in Keizer
Darkish brown ale with a nice tan head..leaves good lace.
Very strong and pleasing malt aromas, backed up with a little hop spice.
Very maltyu taste toop.soft toffee malt dominated some hopping in the end..barely.
Good on the palte thick and consistent.
Overall a good Engish Strong Ale

Sep 22, 2009 Pours mahogany with some lace. Smells smokey with brown sugar and some alcohol. Tastes of smoked malts, some bitter, with a bit of biscuit.

Sep 21, 2009 Rich molasses sugary aroma, burnt toffee. Very dark brown, small tan head. Little boozy, surprising as it’s coming in under 7%. Peaty with a generous hop finish. Sweet smoky wood midpalate. Kind of a frankenstein beer, the whole is more than the sum of the parts.
