Commercial Description:
Tread Lightly Ale is a great balanced beer made from fermented sorghum and corn, hops and yeast. It is a bright beer with light taste and body and without the after taste of other sorghum-based beers. Inspired by the old-style America Pilsner, our Tread Lightly Ale appeals to a new style beer drinker looking for a healthy alternative, low caloric content and great taste.

Light and sweet nose. Light on the tongue, with a lively carbonation. Subtle fruit flavors (Granny Smith apples and pear) in the aftertaste. Slight sourness gave it a pinch of depth. Pinch of sweetness, with hints of honey and white wine in the aftertaste. Not a bad gluten-free option for Celiacs and/or those counting calories.

Piss gold with a light haze. Slightly sour-ciderish. Not horrible but not my thing. Uses sorghum for fermentable sugar to be gluten free.

bottle. filtered. very light yellow tinted body, small white head, quick to grow, quick to die... like soda. nose is strange mix of coriander or anise with honey-sweetened corn/bread (i guess that’s how the sorghum and corn show up). thin body, fizzy and weak carbonation, messy texture. some sort of sugared coriander spice is present, and it’s the lone positive quality of this beer. otherwise it’s a semi-sour corn, honey and stale graham cracker flavored beer with very little body and a fizzy, light texture. surprised?

Tap at brewery during GABF 2009.
Pours a thin yellow with a nothing-but-air nose. Boring. Flavor is a tangy sweet and sour sauce with a mixed fruit finish. Average mouthfeel that does nothing to enhance the beer. Blow this planet up and move on.

Bottle. Very clear golden yellow, very small white head. Aroma is similar to white wine, there are no noticeable malts, small hop smell, notes of apple. Taste is fairly sweet and similar to sparkling alcoholic cider, hops come out at the end. Dry finish.

Draught. Pours dark yellow with a small, fizzy white head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, cereal, meal), light hop (herbs), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of apple, sorghum, nutmeg, and pepper. Light bodied, slick texture, average carbonation, and a chalky finish. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. Man am I glad I do not need a gluten free diet.
