Crafty07 (334), Lexington, Kentucky, USA May 14, 2008 Newcastle Brown in a bottle was my ’gateway’ beer. After drinking several of these on several occasions, my eyes were opened as well as my tastebuds and I’ve never looked back.
Smooth and low carbonated, this brown allows you to drink it far too easily and it’s quite sessionable.
Are there better browns, no doubt, but thanks to Heineken’s distribution, I can thank Newcastle for my love of beer!
MrBunn (842), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2008 Clear (ugh) bottle. Body is a thin-looking chestnut color with a thin layer of bubbles on top that have all but disappeared by now. Mild aromas of earthy and musty nuttiness are slightly underdeveloped and give way to a flavor that is much of the same. It sports a nutty backbone with some toffee malt presence and a touch of dusty earth and a sort of sweet finish with a bit of bitterness in the late aftertaste. islander22 (3), Vashon, Washington, USA does not count Aug 29, 2008 The rich brown almost reddish color begs you to drink it. The beer smells nice but not too strong in flavor. The flavor does not contradict but it is a slightly seet caramelized flavor that finishes slighlty bitter. A must try oberabcbbsok (679), Hoboken, Belgium Aug 28, 2008 Tasted on bottle. Little malty and a some bitter taste in it. Not to bad, just more then average Leighton (19), Salisbury, Connecticut, USA Aug 27, 2008 I had my first Newcastle tonight and I was damn pleased. Dark, rich brown color. No head to speak of but the beer does have enough body to fill you up a bit. Great flavor, kind of a caramel, chocolate type thing it’s got going. Real tasty. sneezey (102), Hackettstown, New Jersey, USA Aug 26, 2008 Malty and a bit bitter. Not as good an aroma as suggested by its style. A bit too carbonated and light on the hops. Not a bad beer by any means, but could be better.
