jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Jul 13, 2007 Awesome aroma - very silky smooth mouthfeel. Appearance was the weakest element, looked much thinner than it tasted. Just enough in the hop profile to give it some balance, but didn’t make the beer bitter in any way, something I don’t like in a stout... overall, a very enjoyable beer - not to mention it was consumed at 1 pm impy in the sun!!! DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA Jun 28, 2007 Oh boy, now we’re talking. This one is big...dark ruby brown, small lingering amber head of tiny bubbles. Burnt malt and coffee aroma and initial flavor. Sweet, strong, dark bitter chocolate, carob, espresso, bitter hops throughout the taste experience. Very nice but rough and strong and very rich. Could put hair on your chest!! On tap at brewery minutes ago. Earlier Rating: 5/15/2007 Total Score: 3.8 Blackish with small tan head. Nice aroma of dark roadted malts. Rich, full body, tasty dark roasted malt monster with some sweet, dark chocolate and subtle coffee notes. Noticable alcohol but overall smooth. You can get a pint of this for $3 on a Monday night at the brewery! TAR (2087), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Feb 3, 2007 Draft: Chocolate brown. Loose bubbles establish a light-beige head which diminishes quickly. Nose is heavy on the roast, alcohol, and baker’s chocolate. Hints of sugared blackberries and nutty coffee. Quite yeasty, as well. Creamy carbonation, but relatively thin in body. Initial expression of roast-derived coffee links up with juicy plums which anchor the body. Hops collide with the roast to generate a dryish bitterness. Leafy hop acidity is compounded by the strong alcohol and dirty yeast notes. Dryly tannic with hints of burnt caramel, but flabby and underattenuated. Finishes beefy with java, but brashly hoppy and unpleasantly dirty/yeasty. Roast is fairly poignant and clean, but it’s tainted by the yeast and poorly cloaked alcohol. Pretty dull and boring. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Nov 26, 2006 GABF 2006. Black bodied with a small tan head. Nose is roasted malts, bakers chocolate and coffee. notes. taste echoes this with more chocolate notes and a bit more coffee. Body is near full with a moderate carbonation. Chewy feel to it.
