iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 18, 2007 On tap @ the brewpub. Clear light amber with off white film of head. Big aroma of grapefruit and citrusy hops, some biscuity malts. Flavor was tangerine and grapefruit, biscuity and caramel malts. Bitterness was about a 6-7 on a 1-10 scale. Medium body, light to moderate creamy carbonation. Very good. BeerLimey (1873), California, USA Aug 24, 2005 Clouded peachy amber appearance, spicy grapefruit aroma. Strong hoppy grapefruit flavor, sweet fruity undertones. Aggressively hopped and bitter. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jan 21, 2005 (Draft: Newport Beach Brewing Company in Newport Beach, CA) Fifth and final beer of the night at this brewpub, and I didn’t expect much based on the other NBBC beers I’ve had this evening, but this one is a pleasant surprise. It’s a pretty nice and flavorful IPA, moderately sweet and malty, and balanced by a pleasant hoppiness initially. The hops kicks it into gear after a few seconds and it takes center stage in the clean, crisp finish. The hoppy nose is only mildly citric. Light amber color and a bit hazy in appearance. Small off-white head settles to a film, but leaves a little bit of sporadic lacing, which is more than any of the other offerings I’ve had tonight. Overall, a very respectable IPA.
