JohnC (2227), Mission Viejo, California, USA Jan 5, 2008 Bottle, bought at the brewpub. After I was talking beer with the bartender for a while, he mentioned that they had bottled some of this, but it wasn’t yet labeled. So I got one.
It pours a very clear golden brown with a small head. The aroma had some malt and vanilla in it. Creamy on the palate with hints of orange and candy sugar, it’s a touch sticky, but finishes very warmly. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 4, 2007 GABF 2007. Clear pale orange beer is disappointing, even though my scoring doesn’t pan it; I was expecting this to be awesome, and it ended up being merely good. Very winey and porty raisin in the smell, with alcohol and brown sugar. A bit biting on the feel at first, with a first impression of slight orange peel and vanilla alcohol. The finish has a nice soft sweetness over oakey oiliness, and a bit of a tang on the very end. Feel is a little syrupy overall. Nothing in this beer takes center stage; everything seems kind of reluctant to shine. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Oct 28, 2007 GABF 2007: Poured a lightly hazed yellow color with a white head. The aroma had mild bourbon and good vanilla. Dark fruity malt base. The malty flavor was sweet and fruity with some bourbon and esters. Medium bodied and warming. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Oct 21, 2007 Date: 10/11/2007

BeerandBlues2 (3201), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 15, 2007 GABF ’07. Pours clear yellow with an average, rocky, off-white head, lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, hay, straw, meal), light hops (grass), average yeast (horse blanket) with notes of banana, vanilla and bourbon. Medium bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity and bitterness. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 14, 2007 GABF 2007. One of the top 6 or so brews I sampled @ the fest. Billed as a whiskey barrel aged quad, this is a very hot beer w/ vanilla undertones. Full bodied. Excellent. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Sep 9, 2007 Tasted at Stone XI Party. Golden copper color with no head. Malty bourbon and oak aroma. Thick sticky palate. Strong earthy and herbal sweet taste of caramel, fig, candy sugar, bourbon, and oak. Excellent.
