Commercial Description:
It has been a year since we released ’00 and, as promised, we have brewed up another “extreme” Storm. Like its predecessor, only 20 barrels of ’01 will ever be brewed. Five malts and three hop varieties, along with a special ingredient chosen for the ’01, combine to create another exceptional and unique beer. It was brewed during the winter of 2001 and aged for almost a year before its release. Like most products with such robust ingredients, time increases the complexity of the ’01 and allows more subtle characteristics to be noticed as stronger flavors subside. Although ready to drink now, this beer will continue to get better for years to come. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: “It’s All About Extremes!”

The appearance is a dark reddish color. A lot of raisins show in the aroma. The flavor is malty and contains more raisins. Alcohol shows through in the finish.

Bottle at Toncatchers. Thanks to Dennis for finally popping the cork. Brown with a small beige head. The aroma was earthy with nuts, dried fruit and something that reminded me of wet cardboard. The taste was similar to the nose, no surprises(unfortunately). The palate was just a bit thin. OK brew but probably way past its prime.

300th rating, enjoyed at Toncatchers 2. I liked this one more than the other guys did, obviously. Nose is sweet malt and clove(?). Color is hazy orange and yummy looking. Taste is sweet and full, with a sharp bite after. Feels good in the mouth. Alcohol soft and fuzzy.

Bottle shared at toncatchers "nothing sour, nothing hoppy" tasting. Pretty old, but not terribly bad. Good flavors of caramelized sugars, some aged fruit. Decent for a barleywine.

hella old I know, so? Completely flat appearance and a licorice accented nose of aged sweet malt and vanilla. Lots of aged malt/bourbon drenched cake with a distracting astringently bitter backing. Body is on the thin side and I just do not like the bitterness that’s ever so present here..and i don’t like the thinness much either.

Bottle at Toncatcher’s non hoppy non sour tasting. His bottle he has been trying to open for ever as far as I know. Pours amber orange with a tan ring. Nose is sweet but thin and liquidy. Taste is quite boozy a bit of tannin and malty. ok overall.

Ruby pour with a thin tan head. Brown sugar and rich caramel aroma. Flavor was just loaded with dark fruits, caramel, oxidation/sherry, toffee, and crazy enough...brownies. Really delicious brownies. Nice rich finish. This one held up very nice, pop them now I guess.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small, fizzy, off-white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, toffee), heavy hops (perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of dates, alcohol, brown sugar, and vanilla. Full bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and an astringent-dry-spicy. Long duration, heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.
