The aroma was sweet caramel with some cherries. Lots of oxidation. The taste had some old shrry along with some cardboard. There was hints of leather and some clove that came off in a bad way. This was past it’s prime. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 4, 2007 Poured a hazy amber color with no head. The aroma had oxidized shrry notes. Also sweet sugary malt with some dark fruit. The flavor had a sweet start then finished dry. Some dried fruit flavor. Woody and warming with some bitterness and alcohol pepper on the finish. Dry with a medium body. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 14, 2007 Bottle as an extra from Clark, which was passed on after SuIIy brought a bottle over. Much thanks to the both of you. Medium brown, no head whatsoever. Cardboard was about all I could get from the aroma. Flavor loaded with caramel, residuel malts, faint raisin, not much else, but not cloying at all. Mouthfeel silky smooth. Decent. PilsnerPeter (2667), Flushing, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 24, 2007 Bottle, Thanks to notalush: Deep murky brownish amber pour with a tan head that diminishes to a consistent ring. Beautiful aroma full of berry-like fruitiness, toffee, fresh resins and wood. Flavor is extremely complex with lots of nice deep berry flavors as well as plums. Has some earthy elements like a peat hint and some smoke character. There’s also a solid back of malt which makes it a bit toffee-ish. Rich, smooth resins come out later towards the finish. Hops come through very nicely, especially for a five year old brew. A beautiful Barley Wine. JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Aroma is fantastic, mint and menthol over a soft creamy sweet maltiness. Caramel and cookies. A bit of plum, cherry and a spicy/corianderish yeastiness that make it appear almost Belgian. Malts are beatiful and soft. Light orange and spice towards the finish with another cooling menthol flavour retronasally. The beer of the day for me. notalush (2690), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 24, 2007 Thanks to TBC2 for this one - cloudy light red pour, with no head to speak of - caramel and brandy aroma, with faint background british hops and hints of oxidation - apparent marris otter in the flavor - the beer has dried out quite a bit, but you can detect how sweet it probably was when it was young - dried cherries and raisins, with touches of sherry - light woodiness, with apparent, but not overpowering alcohol warmth - it seems like this beer has just passed it’s peak, but it will probably hold up for another year or two. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

Aroma is sweet and very fruity. Flavor was very much the same, but had a huge alcohol bite to it. Over all this brew as certainly aged well.
