Commercial Description:
The '02 represents the third edition of our limited release beer. As in the past, this beer has been brewed with a completely new recipe and follows no particular style guidelines. Again, the 20 barrels of limited production '02 was aged for almost a year before it was released. This year's version is made with a single malt, Marris Otter, which our brewers believe to be the best in the world. In addtion, a variety of hops were added to achieve the 100 IBUs (International Bitterness Units) which creates a distinctive yet surprisingly smooth bite. As always, this product will improve with time, so find a few and enjoy them for years to come. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It's All About Extremes."

Thanks to Hopdog and congrats on 1,400. Pours a dark red amber with a small off white head that left lacing. Aroma of prunes and slight toffee/alcohol. Flavor was similar to the aroma. Some alcohol burn at the end.

Much thanks to hopdog for sharing this kickass bottle... Appears a dark amber with a light soapy tan head and spotty lacing. Smell is of vanilla and cream with hints of dark fruit, along with nice roasted nuts. Taste is of vanilla, biscuit, dark fruit, and cream. Mouthfeel is smooth, smooth, velvety smooth. Drinkability...what ABV?

Here it is, my 1,400th rating on RateBeer. Bottle acquired in a trade with jjpm74 (thanks!). Poured a darker and hazy amber/mahogany color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, oranges, wood, and toffee, Tastes of caramel (lighter than the aroma), plums, and a bit fruity. Light alcohol burn in the finish.

Poured a hazy orange color with a thin, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of oak, caramel malts, nuts, citrus (notably orange) and some light whisky as well. Taste was very fruity, lots of citrus fruits, more caramel malts, grapefruit bitterness, and a hot alcohol finish.

Pours a murky brown color with a ring of white lace. Excellent aroma of thick, rich malt, caramel, hops and alcohol. Excellent flavor of thick, rich malt, caramel, hops, alcohol and lingering sweetness, the finish is mildly bitter. Medium to full body with a liquorous texture and low carbonation. I notice that this barley wine is 12% abv but it doesn’t feel that way, you notice alcohol but the thick body prevents this gem to be boozey, amazing stuff.

Well I just had a really nice rating written for this but now it’s gone. Cloudy amber, beige head. Wonderfully balanced sweet, caramelly malts and mild yet flavorful grapefruity hops. Full bodied, no signs of the high abv, and it has yet to oxidize too much. This beer is doing very well right now.

Bouteille, Table And Wines, NorthAmpton, Mai 2005.

Cloud amber w/ frothy, off-white foam. Hoppy, grapefruit aroma w/ caramel, toffee, & notes of vanilla & wood. Full-bodied. Flavour is malty & hoppy w/ a nice, dark fruitiness. Warm, peppery, bitter finish.
