Commercial Description:
The '03 adds a new twist to the annual limited edition beer that we brew. The past three versions ('00, '01 and '02) all used ale yeast strains in their creation. This year, a lager yeast provides the next unique flavor in this series of strong beers. With this new yeast, we, again, selected an original combination of ingredients to round out the never-to-be-used-again recipe. Hints of roasted malt are balanced with the mildly floral bitterness of '03's three hops to produce our next one of a kind brew. In addition, the nearly full pound of malt that has been used to make each bottle of '03 is the key to it's complexity and tremendous strength. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It's All About Extremes!"

Wowzers. Aroma is strong musty alcohol and fermented sugar. Pours dark brown, no fizz. Taste is very raisin and prunes, with a tangy yeasty finish, pretty weird.

Dark brown color and cloudy. Aroma is sweet caramel. A bit oxidized and a very faint carboard taste. Taste also has a bit of fruit and caramel molasses sweetness. Aged well IMO, not too stale and still nice sweet flavors and balanced profile. Never had fresh though.

Bottle shared by yobdoog at jimmacks Beer Wars preparty. Poured pretty ugly with a murky muddy brown body and an almost nonexistant head. Boozy aroma of honey, toffee and grapes. Sweet flavor of honey, raisins, toffee and biscuit. Holding up suprisingly well as long as you like sweet beers.

Jim Mack’s Pre-Beer Wars Gathering. Pours a mahogany body with a tan lacing. Soy, chocolate, caramel, chewy cherry a hint oxidized but the etoh servers it purpose for the most part. Paper notes as well. These just don’t age so well, maybe its the cobalt bottles and maybe its something else.

750, corked and foiled. Thanks, GLKaiser! Pours mahogany with caramel highlights. Headless, laceless. Huge nose of chocolate, prunes, tawny port, and raisins. Creamy medium body. Almost expected something thicker and stickier, but it’s incredibly drinkable. Chocolate, brown bread, figs, and raisins on the mid-palate. Long roasty toasty nutty finish.

750ml bottle shared by toncatcher. Lots of nice carmel and sweet malty notes in the aromas. Flavor fell off a bit with touches of the same, but in a reduced mode. I wonder if age has taken a bit of a toll?

750ml bottle via Mys Swap 3.0 . Pours a dark brown color with no headand no carbonation. Aroma is medium sweet, wood, caramel and raisins. Taste is semi bitter, raisin, soy, and alcohol. Argo0 stated it well" Not sure if it aged poorly or if it ever was any good, but unpleasant now."
