Commercial Description:
The '03 adds a new twist to the annual limited edition beer that we brew. The past three versions ('00, '01 and '02) all used ale yeast strains in their creation. This year, a lager yeast provides the next unique flavor in this series of strong beers. With this new yeast, we, again, selected an original combination of ingredients to round out the never-to-be-used-again recipe. Hints of roasted malt are balanced with the mildly floral bitterness of '03's three hops to produce our next one of a kind brew. In addition, the nearly full pound of malt that has been used to make each bottle of '03 is the key to it's complexity and tremendous strength. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It's All About Extremes!"

750ml bottle via Mys Swap 3.0 (thanks!). THis pours a dark brown with a small beige head. Nose is toffee, caramel, alcoholic. Tastes like the aroma with some added oak, bourbon, bitter cocoa, and raisins. Body is full, carbonation is though after 4 years, lol..

Courtesy SoLan. The pour is a dark chocolate brown with a reddish tint. Zero head or lacing noted. Scents of rich caramel, chocolate malts, vanilla, and hints of boozy bourbon comprise the nose. It smells very rich, not at all oxidized like I was expecting. The flavor is again very sweet and malty, with virtually zero hop remnants. A chewy blend of Indiscernible dark fruits washed in bourbon and then steeped in molasses and nougaty malts comprise the taste profile. The body is substantial, but in a syrupy, sweet kind of way. I imagine this was much better when fresh, but it was till fairly enjoyable even at this age.

Bottle at the second Doubletree tasting, provided by Zinister. Thanks! Pours an average mahogany with nice lacing around the glass. Aroma is molasses, cane sugar, syrup, and red wine. Tastes of sour molasses, plumb, and bourbon. Average mouthfeel. Alcohol is very prominent. Not a bad beer.

Courtesy SoLan. Thick amber-red color, very little head. Severely sweet candy corn aroma, alcohol, dried dark fruits. Extremely sweet and malty, kind of one-dimensional. Alcohol is apparent even for the age. And dopplebock didn’t really come to mind when drinking it.

Courtesy SoLan. Pours a dark ruby brown, with a small soapy head and very little lacing. Strong caramel and toffee aromas batter the nose first of all, then a wave of molasses takes flight. Flavor is candy corn, caramel, toffee, and a pretty good alcohol singe. Smooth on the palate, but with a bitter finish.

Courtesy SoLan. Pours dark brown, with a light off white head. Smells of dark caramel malts, molasses, figs, maybe some banana as well. The flavor seemed a little subdued, probably due to age. Sharp bitterness in the finish took a little away from the dark fruit and caramel flavors. The alcohol is quite pungent throughout the experience, which wasnt surprising considering the abv and age of this brew. Just about average for me.

Bottle at a tasting provided by none other than Puzzl. Sweet, vineous aroma, a bit of wine. Thin flavor, more cardboard, odd fruitiness. Not bad, not exciting. It’s all downhill from here.
