Commercial Description:
The '03 adds a new twist to the annual limited edition beer that we brew. The past three versions ('00, '01 and '02) all used ale yeast strains in their creation. This year, a lager yeast provides the next unique flavor in this series of strong beers. With this new yeast, we, again, selected an original combination of ingredients to round out the never-to-be-used-again recipe. Hints of roasted malt are balanced with the mildly floral bitterness of '03's three hops to produce our next one of a kind brew. In addition, the nearly full pound of malt that has been used to make each bottle of '03 is the key to it's complexity and tremendous strength. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It's All About Extremes!"

Cold 25.4oz bottle, corked: Pours a dark ruby color with no head. Aroma is of roasted malts, floral hops, plums, and molasses. Taste is mainly of roasted malts, with a punch of sourness layered over bitterness and a malty, sour and alcohol ending. Smooth with a lightly oily texture and weak carbonation. Dry and sour aftertaste. Eh.

RBSG 2006 - DC Grand Tasting Lineup Ruby color, nice head and lacing. Nose of snappy yeast and thiny caramelized sugar, plenty of hops and some savory complement like hot sauce or caramelized onions. The flavor is vegetal, nice sweet broccoli and citrusy, very nice. Excellent for the age.

KP’s Fest. Pours a deep dark amber moslty brown with a fizzy somewhat lasting beige head. Surprisingly this had some carbonation despite the cork without any kind of cage to keep it in. Aroma is nutty and chocolate with hints of soy and oxidation. Caramel hints and light citrus hops in the aroma as well. Lightly fruity flavor, with some light roast and chocolate, toffee, caramel, more soy and wet cardboard oxidation but it is not overpowering. Still a very nice beer.

Poured a clear dark reddish brown color. The aroma had a good bit of dark fruits and sweet malt. While you can smell some alcohol there was a decent balance. Thick fruity flavor of dark fruits and apples. Warming sensation in the chest and throat. Mild bitterness on the finish.

Glad to have the chance to sample this. Blue bottle I guess is better than blue b.....Anyways. A brown appearance with no carbonation. A yeasty aroma. The flavor showcases the booze er alcohol and also displays some chocolate and caramel. Maybe some licorice in there. Aftertaste was sweet. Overall a good beer.

I found this over at Marty’s in Boston. It’s the s***. The beer that is. It’s like mal-ass-es in my glass and creamy, bittery, and with like wine fruitness to the tasste. The pound of malt is surely the cause of both the color and the flavor. A really wonderful one of a kind beer.

Sampled at RBSG 2006- Grand Tasting. I really thought this was quite good. Plenty of subtleties abound in this concoction: toasted malts and milky roasted chocolates that attempt to mask a roasted red bell pepper aroma. Huge tongue-coating malted milk sweetness that subsequently burries you in an avalanch of alcohol. Very yeasty with tremendous ketones and esters. Super thick mouth coating palate.
