Commercial Description:
The '03 adds a new twist to the annual limited edition beer that we brew. The past three versions ('00, '01 and '02) all used ale yeast strains in their creation. This year, a lager yeast provides the next unique flavor in this series of strong beers. With this new yeast, we, again, selected an original combination of ingredients to round out the never-to-be-used-again recipe. Hints of roasted malt are balanced with the mildly floral bitterness of '03's three hops to produce our next one of a kind brew. In addition, the nearly full pound of malt that has been used to make each bottle of '03 is the key to it's complexity and tremendous strength. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It's All About Extremes!"

RBSG 06. Muddy brown with tan head. The aroma is toffee, caramel and nuts, very sweet. Sweetness carries over to the flavor with molasses and toffee. Full body and sticky.

Sampled at the RBSG ’06. Clear brown body that makes a thin head. Malt aroma, some oxidation present. Sweet over all, with just a touch of bitterness. A bit thinned out.

(RBSG06, 750ml bottle) Opaque dark brown body with no head. Aroma is medium sweet, raisin/prune. Taste is sweet, raisin, soy, some sourness, alcohol. Sticky full body with no carbonation. Not sure if it aged poorly or if it ever was any good, but unpleasant now.

25 oz bottle, 2006 RBSG. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown with minimal to no head save for a few small bubbles. Aroma is showing some heavy oxidation with lots of sherry and port, some light chocolate and alcohol as well. As to the flavor, well, it’s an aged Dopplebock. Either you dig them or you don’t. I happen to dig them. Lots of heavy oxidation and port notes over a heavy munich and caramel malt base. Alcohol is present in good quantities but for the style that’s OK. Mouthfeel is thinning out yet still has enough syrupyness to coat the mouth. Minimal carbonation. Overall, glad I had a chance to try this one, but it’s not for everybody, especially at the three year mark.

Brown with a small tan head. Te aroma is that of caramel candy with an alcohol center. The flavor is hot alcohol then caramel candies. Thing alcoholy palate. Not good at all. Did not age well or was bad to start with not sure.

Beer #26 RBSG 06. Last beer of the night, and another beer I was happy to have the chance to try. Deep amber appearance. Honey and bread aroma. Flavor was very sweet, honey and molasses. Ultimately, this was definitely a doppelbock, and just too sweet for me.

Holy alcohol!!! Pours out a deep muddy color with no real head and a slight hiss of carbonation. Aroma is of alcohol and maybe some sweet fruit here and there. Taste is very complex and rich. Sweet malts fade into some dried fruits with some touch of a port and maybe some notes of brandy here and there. Good brew, maybe I’ll get a hold of it some time again.
