Commercial Description:
For the sixth year we have faithfully produced the next edition in our impressive series of annual limited beers. Copious amounts of Pale, Chocolate, and Munich malts gives the mouthfeel to this brew. Additionally, twenty pounds of East African Cocoa combines with subtle raspberry flavors to accentuate the beer's creative backbone. Though not laden with hop bitterness, we chose the Perle hop's mild spice and sweetness to complement the chocolate in this ale. Unusual care and a year of aging, as well as hand corking and a never to be used again recipe give this beer a signature flavor which should only improve with time. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "It's All About Extremes!" 11.7% Alcohol by Volume.

Small tan head, stringy lacing with fair retention.Clear mahogany color. Nice appearence. Nose of berrys, cherries, raspberries and caramel. Similar aromas as KRE, just not as expansive. Body is med/full, creamy textured, velvetty, silky on the tongue. Chocolate flavors up front backed by notes of raspberry, cherry, cocoa and semi sweet chocolate. Well balanced and easy drinkin for 12% alc. Finish is lightly sweet, chocolatey and fruity. Thanks to eaglefan538 for sharing this one, thanks Brian!

Dark mahogany body with a fast fading head...Strong fruity aroma with bitter chocolate notes. It smells like chocolate ganache. This is a very complex beer with a lot of berry in the flavor, cocoa, and something very reminiscent of port wine. There is a strange, grassy herbal quality to it that I’m not sure what to make of it. It is a strong beer, and it shows with a hefty alcohol burn.

Great packaging - I probably would have bought this even if I didn’t know what it was - clear dark amber pour with clingy, bubbly lace - semi-tart, nearly tannic aroma, with with background sweet notes of caramel and vanilla, rounded out by oak and cherries - initially sweet, but a bitter/tart, wine-like character balances it out rather quickly - chocolate, caramel, raspberry and toffee are the most prominent flavors, reminding me a little of Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock - light vanilla, pastry/dough, a touch of wood, and light cinnamon add to the complex flavor of this brew - finishes with some bourbon and mild alcohol warmth - quick distinctive and tasty - I’d like to try this with some age on it.

Poured a dark brown color, slight ruby-amber hues when held to light. The head was thin and tan brown, fairly decent retention and lacing for such levels of ABV. The aroma was very pleasant, berries and cocoa. The flavor was complex and smooth, a wonderful blend of raspberries, balanced chocolate (not sweet or sickly thick and rich), and v. lightly hop/spiced bitter in the finish. Alcohol was rather subtle for such a concoction, although detectable. Mouthfeel was fantastic, very smooth, velvety, not too thick, nice. A very nice beer, much thanks to Cottrell for hooking me up with this one, not overdone or "extreme" as some brewers have done to beers like this.

bottle from my foster santa. first off, this does not affect the rating, but that bottle was very cool. pours a very dark brown with a light tan head. aroma is very good, smells like chocolate covered cherries and coconut. flavor is like boxed chocolates(i tried hard to get away from a forest gump quote) the chocolate flavors are some of the best i’ve experienced, the fruit flavor is a cross between candied cherries and raspberry jam. alcohol dries it up to the right degree here leaving a wonderful powdery feel. not too sweet, hops aren’t noticeable, but it appears they are keeping things in balance here. a pleasure of a beer.

Sample at Indy tasting Dick’s 96th - Aroma of alcohol, raspberry, chocolate, and dark malts. Pours brown with small head and decent lacing. Flavor is actually much smoother than aroma. Very tasty without the alcohol bite I was expecting. Palate is clean. Different and tasty.

I got a bottle of this in Massachusetts while there last week. Sadly, the bottle fell out of my fridge tonight and the neck broke and shattered, but luckily we were able to save enough for two small glasses. Dark cloudy brown color with an amazing aroma that is earthy, malty, and chocolately. I could smell this all day. The aroma gave me such high hopes for this beer...only to find it unable to to live up to the aromatic smell. Weak mouthfeel that is fairly watery (maybe due to the jarring of the bottle smashing on the floor?) with a slick of tarty sweet choco-raspberry that lingers for a long long time on the tongue. It’s still good and very drinkable, but damn, what a wonderful aroma.
