Commercial Description:
For the sixth year we have faithfully produced the next edition in our impressive series of annual limited beers. Copious amounts of Pale, Chocolate, and Munich malts gives the mouthfeel to this brew. Additionally, twenty pounds of East African Cocoa combines with subtle raspberry flavors to accentuate the beer's creative backbone. Though not laden with hop bitterness, we chose the Perle hop's mild spice and sweetness to complement the chocolate in this ale. Unusual care and a year of aging, as well as hand corking and a never to be used again recipe give this beer a signature flavor which should only improve with time. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "It's All About Extremes!" 11.7% Alcohol by Volume.

2005 Vintage ~ Rating #1500

11/26/2008: Newport Storm ’05 pours a greyish-brown color and has a very low level of carbonation at this point. The vineous aroma is loaded with tart cherries (think New Glarus Belgian Red or New Glarus Unplugged Enigma) along with some sweet, caramelized/sugary malt. The flavor is malty and toward the sweeter side of the spectrum at first. There is also some oxidation present in the caramel/toffee maltiness along with red wine, prune, and a light cherry flavor. It finishes with a rich chocolate flavor with hints of berry/cherry accompanied by a nice, warming alcohol sensation. This beer has a medium-full body, a good heavy mouthfeel, and is quite smooth. Overall I think that this beer has aged well and is still quite good.

1 pt and 9.4 oz. (750 ml) corked, blue, silk-screened, wine bottle (11.7% abv) from ClarkVV via trade in June 2007. Thank you! Rating #494 for this beer.

Dark brown with a thin off white head. Nice lacing and some carbonation. Aroma of chocolate and rasberry. Taste of chocolate, berries, plums, alcohol and spices. Fantastic velvet mouthfeel and a slight warming alcohol finish.

Courtesy growler.Pours a very dark brown with a small white head that leaves spotty lacing behind. The aroma shows good amounts of chocolate, raspberries, alcohol, and some funky spices. The flavor is very sweet with chocolate, caramel. and fruity sugars up front, but is balanced out nicely with some tart raspberries and spices. The alcohol;s presence is felt throughout adding warmth and sweetness. Medium-full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and subtle carbonation. This one goes down smooth with a fruity finish and the warming sensation all the way down. This is a nice brew, but maybe a touch too much alcohol.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing. Pours a hazy orange-brown with a white ring. Sharp and bitter malt aroma, with a hint of sourness. Rich, sweet malt taste that gets sweeter as notes of chocolate, dates, and figs kick in. Lingering sweetness. Quite tasty and interesting.

bottle through trade with RCL. poured a hazy brown with a thin beige head and some sediment. aroma was caramel, spice, and raisins. flavor was pretty much the same as the nose with the addition of black liquourice. <----- is that how you spell it? had to have help with that flavor from brother. glad to have this 3 year old retired beer for my 100th rating.

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a hazy brown with orange hues, beige head, minimal retention. Spicy aroma of wild cherry, raison and chocolat. Flavor much the same with chocolate notes and black licourish. Has medium-full body with med-high carbonation. Over all a very tasty brew.

Extra cheers to growler for the Newport Storm- very, very cool. Bright mahogany. Deep chewy candy, some molasses, apricot. Soft, very cherryish, a little oily. Some chocolatey character. Lots of maple. Beautiful, well-rounded, only a touch of late heat.

At Vero. Dark brown with sediment, particles. Cherry nose, with rum too. Low carbonation. Slight bourbon flavors, a tad sweet.
