Commercial Description:
For the sixth year we have faithfully produced the next edition in our impressive series of annual limited beers. Copious amounts of Pale, Chocolate, and Munich malts gives the mouthfeel to this brew. Additionally, twenty pounds of East African Cocoa combines with subtle raspberry flavors to accentuate the beer's creative backbone. Though not laden with hop bitterness, we chose the Perle hop's mild spice and sweetness to complement the chocolate in this ale. Unusual care and a year of aging, as well as hand corking and a never to be used again recipe give this beer a signature flavor which should only improve with time. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "It's All About Extremes!" 11.7% Alcohol by Volume.

Bottle shared by nolankowal at C-Bus 6: Deep amber color with an off white head. Aroma, caramel, sweet notes, and a bit of oxidation. Flavor, some slight oxidized notes, caramel, earthy hops, and some alcohol. Not to bad, just a little off.

Bottle Courtesy of jjpm74. Thanks John! Murky dark brown. Small almost non-existent tan fizz on the surface. Nose is sweet. Lots of choco notes, cocoa, sweet malts, chocolate cake and soft fruit notes. taste is just as big as the aroma. Lots of chocolate notes, cocoa, cake, soft alcohol, fruit notes and light bitterness. Body is slick and sticky. Light warmth and soft carbonation with a light medium overall feel. Ends with more chocolate, sweet malts, some light alcohol and caramel, chocolate covered fruit notes as well. Very nice!

Thanks to nolankowal for sharing. Sweet malt and some light hops in the nose. Reddish brown in color with a light palate for a strong ale. Vinuous flavors followed by sweet malt. This is just too thin for me personally.

NorCal tasting 07 - I really don’t know how this beer was stored but I have to guess that it wasn’t in the best of conditions. What seemed like it might have been really tasty a year ago, was now just a shell. An aroma of light fruits, some dark chocolate and carmael but it was just too toned down, almost watered down. Appearance was a cloudy, dark brown/amber in color with a small head. Flavor of sweet malts, light fruits, pepper, maple and light chocolate notes. Pretty average stuff. Nothing great.

Bottle from ClarkVV. Looks like icedtea. No head or carbonations. Has a malty chocolate raspberry aroma. The taste was the same but sweet with a dry finish. Some alcohol is detected but not too much. Very smooth on the palate.

Purchased Labor Day 2006; sampled 01.20.07. Pours a clear, rich garnet with a fine ring of brown foam along the edges of the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty, with a good deal of alcohol and fruitiness. Ripe fruits and chocolate abound in the flavor, with a lingering alcoholic finish. Significant wood and spice are present as well. Not overpowering for a 12% brew; the age has done it well. Another winner from my former hometown brewery!

Sampled at the Richmond Beer Industry Gathering 2006. Clear dark amber body with a small white head. Sweet dark caramel aroma with some alcohol burn. Sweet caramel flavor with a very gentle ending.

Poured a clear dark orange /brown color with a thin beige head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, chocolate, raisins and only a hint of alcohol. The flavor was fairly sweet and ,alty with a hint of chocolate. Some alcohol. Bitter finish. Very warming with the alcohol fairly well hidden for how high it is.
