Commercial Description:
For the sixth year we have faithfully produced the next edition in our impressive series of annual limited beers. Copious amounts of Pale, Chocolate, and Munich malts gives the mouthfeel to this brew. Additionally, twenty pounds of East African Cocoa combines with subtle raspberry flavors to accentuate the beer's creative backbone. Though not laden with hop bitterness, we chose the Perle hop's mild spice and sweetness to complement the chocolate in this ale. Unusual care and a year of aging, as well as hand corking and a never to be used again recipe give this beer a signature flavor which should only improve with time. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "It's All About Extremes!" 11.7% Alcohol by Volume.

Bingo...Bango...Bongo. From the first pour and the horrible Brooklyn Ale my friend John made me drink....the top of the night in terms of taste. Heavy distinct pour. Dark clean look. The beer the makes you want to skip down the street thanking God for the creation of Hops and Malt. Oddly the more I drink...the better it tastes!

bottle from my foster santa. first off, this does not affect the rating, but that bottle was very cool. pours a very dark brown with a light tan head. aroma is very good, smells like chocolate covered cherries and coconut. flavor is like boxed chocolates(i tried hard to get away from a forest gump quote) the chocolate flavors are some of the best i’ve experienced, the fruit flavor is a cross between candied cherries and raspberry jam. alcohol dries it up to the right degree here leaving a wonderful powdery feel. not too sweet, hops aren’t noticeable, but it appears they are keeping things in balance here. a pleasure of a beer.

Pour is dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of rasberries, butter, chocolate and toffee. Taste is similar, but with hints of coffee beans peaking through. Some peppery elements are present in the finish and the strong alcohol is well masked and only there as a warming guest. This is a return to the greatness of their original runs several years ago.

Update: I had a second bottle of this last night and it was even better than the first bottle. Once again, the alcohol was initially biting before settling back to a warm presence. I can’t believe this is an 11.7% alcohol brew. I think this is by far the best of the Newport Storm series.

750ml bottle. This beer pours to a deep garnet color, with a short, soapy, tan head, and moderate carbonation. The nose of this beer is fantastic, with aromas of sweet malt, chocolate, ripe fruit, and cola nut. The palate is firm, with lots of good chocolate, sweet malt, and a really interesting and tasty cola nut flavor. This beer finishes with more good chocolate, ripe fruit, and cola flavor up front, then ends slightly cloying with chocolate and cola flavor that lingers. This is a very tasty, very enjoyable beer. At 11.7% abv, it is a wonderful beer to sip and savor, and would make a great desert beer. A dangerously drinkable beer at this strength, so be careful with this one. This just might be my favorite of the Newport Storm one offs, and the most impressive I have tasted since ’00.

Draught, Nitro at GIBF in Providence, RI. Raspberry-like aroma is defintely present with lots of chocolate/truffle notes. This is also a bit musty, earthy, and very woodsy. Smells like split wood. Very nice aroma. Moderately hazy-opaque dark brown color with amber edges. Frothy light tan head. Smoth raspberry flavor starts off, but not overpwering. Turns chocolate-like, earthy, and peat-like. Finishes with a bunch of espresso-coffee notes. Very tasty, extremely smooth and the alcohol is undetectable. Awesome stuff.

Dark brown with a thin off white head. Nice lacing and some carbonation. Aroma of chocolate and rasberry. Taste of chocolate, berries, plums, alcohol and spices. Fantastic velvet mouthfeel and a slight warming alcohol finish.

Very dark color with a creamy tan head. Aroma is very nice heavy sweet malt. Dark candy and chocolate. Flavor is a beautiful match of the aroma. Sweet dark candy and chocolate with just a bit of alcohol. Body is big and creay. VERY nice.

Great packaging - I probably would have bought this even if I didn’t know what it was - clear dark amber pour with clingy, bubbly lace - semi-tart, nearly tannic aroma, with with background sweet notes of caramel and vanilla, rounded out by oak and cherries - initially sweet, but a bitter/tart, wine-like character balances it out rather quickly - chocolate, caramel, raspberry and toffee are the most prominent flavors, reminding me a little of Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock - light vanilla, pastry/dough, a touch of wood, and light cinnamon add to the complex flavor of this brew - finishes with some bourbon and mild alcohol warmth - quick distinctive and tasty - I’d like to try this with some age on it.
