Commercial Description:
This year’s version of our annual limited release introduced a new step in the process, barrel aging. After primary fermentation, this step, done in aged bourbon barrels, adds a unique element to the beer. To go along with this special process we used three types of malts, including peated malt, in the fermentation. This combination adds elements to the beer reminiscent of fine Scotch Whiskeys. East Kent Golding hops add to the Scottish influence and round out this exceptionally complex brew. Once again, the beer is finished with a bottle conditioning step and, like its predecessors, should continue to improve with age. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It’s All About Extremes!

Bottle obtained in trade. Very wet looking amber pour. It looks shiny. No head. Quite a malty aroma with noticeable bourbon barrel. A touch of alcohol and sweetness, vanilla and butterscotch. The flavor still has plenty of bourbon barrel left to it. A sweet malt is also present but it has been significantly damaged by oxidization at this point. Cardboard is pronounced. It is not undrinkable, just not very good any more. Carbonation is all but gone. Watery mouth feel and thin body.

Cool Blue Bottle/Corked Been sitting on this one since Sep/Oct. Poured into a chalice a nice slightly cloudy orange/honey color, nice carbonation, tiny fizzy head, not much lacing at all. The nose is of sweet malts/hops, oaky, slight licorice, and caramel. The taste is very nice, sweet/oaky malts, slight licorice and caramel. The alcohol does stick out a bit, but done nicely. Medium body, pretty well rounded brew. Very drinkable, another outstanding brew from Coastal Extreme. Thanks Wayne.

Bottle from Julios. Pours a hazy orange brown with a thick white head. Lots of etoh and bourbon in the nose. Very big in your face etoh. Lots of caramel malt and whiskey. Something just tasted off tho.

Bottle enjoyed on 8/23/08: Judging by the other ratings, this must have been an ugly baby that turned into a hot teen. A cloudy copper orange pour with a tiny white head. Aroma of citrus and sweet, candied fruit. Subtle ba notes and that bourbon element. Tastes quite smooth and sweet. Did I mention smooth? Caramel and citrus balance with the ba notes. More light fruitiness and ever so mellow. I wish I could remember who to thank for sending this one to Idaho!

Bottle: Non-clear apple cider color with no head. What an aroma - bourbon barrell, definitely. Coconut, alcohol and alcohol. Dude, after two years, this BW is intense. I wonder what it would be like in a couple years. Flavors are strong and lively alcohol presence combined with hops, wood and total sweetness. What a treat! I can’t believe this is only rated 70%! I completely disagree. Thanks jake65 for sharing this beauty!

Hazy golden amber. Small quick thin head. Light sweet fruity aroma. Flavor is light malty with a slow lingering ABV burn reminecint of a wine than beer. Soft trailer. Appropriatwl faded Nic .

Blue Bottle Pours out a hazy amber topped with no head. Aroma of GREATNESS. Some Almond Joy aroma and wood. Tast of sweetness with the coconut and a little more of the ABV burn. Very tasty after 2 years. This would be over the top in a few more years. thanks Jake for my first Rhode Island brew.

Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville NC - thanks to OldGrowth for sharing! Hazy orange pour, slightly viscous. Boozy nose, almost cloying flavor , but note quite. Notes of vanilla and scotch. Very nice warming action!
