Commercial Description:
This year’s version of our annual limited release introduced a new step in the process, barrel aging. After primary fermentation, this step, done in aged bourbon barrels, adds a unique element to the beer. To go along with this special process we used three types of malts, including peated malt, in the fermentation. This combination adds elements to the beer reminiscent of fine Scotch Whiskeys. East Kent Golding hops add to the Scottish influence and round out this exceptionally complex brew. Once again, the beer is finished with a bottle conditioning step and, like its predecessors, should continue to improve with age. It is extremely limited, extremely strong, and extremely original, because as we like to say around here: "It’s All About Extremes!

Bottle. Poured a clear copper color with no head. No lacing, as there is almost no carbonation. Aroma is a sweet blend of caramel, malt, and fruit. Flavor....wow! This is a strong ale indeed. Caramel start and a nice malty and alcohol finish. Thanks Cottrell for this puppy! This is freaking awesome!

sweet yeasty bready aroma, lots of sweet caramel and fresh sourdough bread character, caramel sweetness

aroma is getting alcoholic, the earthyness appears to be growing and detracts from the malt rather than balancing it, once warm the malt kicks back in with a vanilla sweetness and the bourbon becomes apparent,

Bottle on 11/30/2008 at the 3rd Annual Richmond Industry Gathering. Hazy caramel body with a small off-white head. Bready, toasty caramel aroma. Sweet caramel and toffee flavor. Medium full body with low carbonation.

Blue Bottle Pours out a hazy amber topped with no head. Aroma of GREATNESS. Some Almond Joy aroma and wood. Tast of sweetness with the coconut and a little more of the ABV burn. Very tasty after 2 years. This would be over the top in a few more years. thanks Jake for my first Rhode Island brew.

Bottle enjoyed on 8/23/08: Judging by the other ratings, this must have been an ugly baby that turned into a hot teen. A cloudy copper orange pour with a tiny white head. Aroma of citrus and sweet, candied fruit. Subtle ba notes and that bourbon element. Tastes quite smooth and sweet. Did I mention smooth? Caramel and citrus balance with the ba notes. More light fruitiness and ever so mellow. I wish I could remember who to thank for sending this one to Idaho!
