Commercial Description:
For 2007 the brewers have selected a blend of 7 malts and 7 hops to create our unique annual limited release. When you decide to open this, you will notice a pitch black ale that pours with small brown head. The aroma is full of citrusy and floral notes, not only from the hops added from the boil but also the hops added after fermentation, the dry hop stage. Finally, one taste of this years beer and you will understand why it is so dark, roasted chocolately and malty flavors are abundant from the various dark malts that make up so much of the recipe. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "Its all about extremes!"

Pours no head so no lace. Almost black color, some mahogany highlights. No carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Molasses nose. Flavor is molasses and alcohol. Nice flavor but a huge disappointment without the carbonation. Blue corked bottle. Pricey at $11.99 for a 750ml bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma.

Bottle 2007 shared by alexadad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with minimal lacing. Moderate roasted malty, prune and chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet roasted flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

2007 Vintage

10/01/2008: Newport Storm ’07 has an aroma similar to chocolate mixed mixed with red wine. There is also a fruity note similar to molasses. The color of this beer is similar to dark chocolate and is quite opaque. No foam was generated during the pour and there is very little, if any, carbonation. The flavor is strong and a slightly sweet with lots of caramelized malts, some semi-sweet chocolate, a medley of dark fruit and coffee, and a definite alcohol sensation through the nose. The finish is slightly more dry than the bulk of the flavor, but really helps to add some balance. The body of this beer is medium-full and is is still on the palate. It still has good mouthfeel and coats well. Overall this is a smooth and easy to drink Imperial Stout. I personally think that this one is somewhat underrated. It has a lot of really good flavors and I like that it is a little on the sweet side. I would have preferred some carbonation as I really think that it would have helped to intensify all of the flavors.

1 pt and 9.4 oz. corked blue wine bottle (10.8% abv) shared by alexsdad06 at the weekly Party Source gathering. Thanks Brad! Rating #60 for this beer...

(thanks to irishboy for the bottle)dark brown with no head.aroma was boozy with some black liquorice, brown sugar, and molasses.flavor is much of the same.mouthfeel is thin and oxidized.this really tastes like its 6 or 7 years old instead of 1.maybe if they would have filled the bottle up the air inside wouldnt have killed it.

Cobalt blue bomber from AllDayDrinker; If it was only carbonated! No pressure in the bottle, cork pushed right in; clear very dark brown with no head; nose of chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and alcohol; tates like it’s five years old and oxidized: kind of thin and watery; falvors are there, coffee, chocolate, molasses, and a bourbony alcohol note. Maybe the 4"+ of air in the top and no pressure ruined it. It has all the flavors but with less than a year on the bottle should seem five plus years old!

bottles acquired from alldaydrinker... pours fairly opaque very dark brown with exactly 11 bubbles for a head which were vigorously roused up.... completely un-carbonated, damn! it smells pretty good though... chocolate-y, black raisins, molasses, malt powder, wood and floral yeast. tastes pretty good too... although a bit too sweet. flavors of wood, toasted nuts, yeast, vanilla cream, spicy bourbon-y oak, molasses and dark fruit/prunes. the aftertaste is of coffee with creamer. alcohol hits the stomach pretty hard. the body seems light to medium but it is hard to tell since it is totally dead and completely unappealing in the mouth. not sure if i can finish it... bummer.

i did a ’superdave70’ and simply funneled the rest ...

First thing I noticed is an abnormally large amount of space beneath the cork. Pours a dark oily black and very little head. Medium sweet aroma of molasses, brown sugar, caramel malt and dark chocolate. Flavor is sweet and there is a good deal of oxidation present as well as dark fruit and toffee. Finishes omewhat thin and bitter.

Corked bottle given to me by Jason and served in my NB worthy glassware:

Like others, my bottle pretty much has no carbonation nor head. It was close to pitch black and there was some oily legs.
The aroma has notes of liquorice, charred malt, raisin and prune, molasses, chocolate, herbal hops, leathery yeast and some oak. I did find some soy but nothing near the levels that others noted.
The taste is moderately sweet and malt driven with a dark fruit twangy background. Some star anise and black strap molasses noted as well. What dry hopping? The finish is ashy, dry, smoky and a hint of tannins.
The mouth feel has expected is near lifeless with the lack of carbonation. Not that is the only problem with the palate however as it is far too thin and boozy as well.

This offering is a complete mess that even properly carbonated bottles would not be able to fix. Extremely disappointing...
