| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 18, 2008 Had to trade for this because I had to complete my tastings of Newport Storm series. Pours out black with absolutely no head had the carbonation level of tap water. Aroma is alcohol, chocolate and some strange malt notes. Taste is just a mess. Its all over the place, chocolate, licorice, alcohol, with a strange salty earthy note in there, picked up the soy that other raters talked about also. I had this in my snifter, had a sip, let it warm a bit and so on for about 5 other sips waiting for it to improve, but it just didn’t BOLTZ7555 (1107), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | May 5, 2008 This is an absolute abomination!!! What a terrible excuse for a beer!!! Very dark brown with absolutely no carbonation. None, zilch, nada. Aroma and flavor of Kikkoman...where’s the wasabi??? Reminiscent of Sam Adams Triplebock down to the blue bottle. At least that was an "extreme" beer. The description of this states, "It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "Its all about extremes!" The only thing this is is extremely awful!!! Drain pour!!! georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep black with absolutely no head. Smells like a toned down Sam Adams Triplebock. Full of sugars, roasted malts, licorice, molasses, and (soy sauce?). Taste was smokey (tobacco?) and roasted. There was no carbonation to speak of. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2008 750ml that found it’s way into my cooler while leaving Hellbilly hellraiser gathering. Extreamly alcoholic on the nose. Some chcolate and molasas aromas as well. Black oil body with not much of a head but the film of an oil spill on water was present on top of body of beer. Thin body texture but has alcohol, chcolate and tobbacco flavors. Alcohol content makes this one well somewhat hard to swollow but managed to do it. Thanks Joshua for this rarity. kramer (2510), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 7, 2008 25 oz bottle, via tertons. Pours a dark brown, almost black body with virtually zero head save for a few large bubbles clinging to the edge of the glass. The nose is heavy burnt and roasted malt with some tar and licorice. Minimal hops noted for the supposed heavy handed hopping. The flavor is very old and oxidized, this doesn’t seem like a 2007 beer at all. It’s pretty thin too, not a whole lot of depth. Very sweet with minimal hops to balance it out. It almost has a Baltic Porter feel up front because of the licorice flavor. Finishes with chalky burnt malt and yeastiness. Mouthfeel is almost completely flat, giving it a watery texture. A little sticky risidual sugars on the finish with lots of alcohol warmth. Overall, this was just a big disappointment. I think that the very low fill-level of this bottle made some bad things happen. BDR (2168), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 26, 2008 Seemed to be more like a barley wine than an imperial stout, but.......poured an opaque medium brown hue, no head/carbonation. Strong leather aroma with some cocoa powder notes. flavor was a mix of hops, alcohol, some oak notes, and cocoa. Light on the palate Decent brew.
