Commercial Description:
For 2007 the brewers have selected a blend of 7 malts and 7 hops to create our unique annual limited release. When you decide to open this, you will notice a pitch black ale that pours with small brown head. The aroma is full of citrusy and floral notes, not only from the hops added from the boil but also the hops added after fermentation, the dry hop stage. Finally, one taste of this years beer and you will understand why it is so dark, roasted chocolately and malty flavors are abundant from the various dark malts that make up so much of the recipe. It is extremely limited, extremely strong and extremely original, because as we like to say around here "Its all about extremes!"

Thanks to Skyview for sharing. Very sweet nose with a powerful dose of caramel, brown sugar, and dark fruits. Very sweet viscous mouthfeel with a good dose of chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, raisin, and a very light floral presence. A very nice brew indeed.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Inky, loose pour of a deep brown color. Syrupy and soft. Sweet, vinous aromas of port, cinnamon, cooked red peppers, wet oak and lots of oily nuts; very much like a rich Malbec reduced with brown sugar and let to cool. Flavors of dates, raisins, molasses and prune, with tons of sweet bourbon and port like notes of vanilla, pepper, and brown spices. Smooth, textured, velvety mouthfeel retains a wet kind rich sweetness that overpowers any alcoholic dryness in the finish. Certainly behaves more like an aged barleywine than any kind of stout, coming off with some uniqueness and memorable character. Thanks for sharing, Bob!

Received a 750 ml bottle from Secret Santa 07. Pours a hazy dark brown brew with no head. Texture is thick and syrupy with aroma of soy sauce, molasses and dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, thick, full bodied with no carbonation. This heavy brew has flavors of dark chocolate, dark pitted fruits, molasses, some toffee and a touch of caramel. Finish is smooth, silky, with a port-like and bourbon finish that really sticks to your throat.

Thank you Skyview! Murky black color with no head. Strong aroma of soy sauce and molasses. Big coffee, chocolate, soy and sweet malt flavors. A little spearmint. Everything blends together and makes it almost like a port or Madeira. I like it!

Courtesy of Skyview (thanks!). Very dark filmy brown with no head. Sweet caramel and a touch of bourbon on the nose. Prune, root beer, and bourbon in the flavor along with a touch or roasted malt.

Another very short filled bottle that was actually better than the flat ’06. Black pour, small white head. Aroma is sweet chocolate and has a sugary sweetness. Flavor is sweet, fruity esters, cloying sweetness, slightly roasty and chocolate. Espresso as it warms. Creamy mouthfeel with a hoppy aftertaste. Not bad at all but nothing to justify the price, not bashing but I’m never seeking these Newport Storms again.

750 ml bottle acquired from Alldaydrinker. Beautiful cobalt blue bottle. Pours an opague deep black with some brown edges when held up to the light. There is absolutely no head or lace with this brew. That was the first of the brews flaws. This brew is dead flat, no carbonation at all. Nose was of chocolate, dark fruits and soy. Taste was at first chocolate and roasted malts, but after awhile the flavor of soy became strong. The brew reminds me of the ’94 Sam Adams Triple Bock I rated several months ago. Palate was thin & flat. This brew would benefit from a bit of additional carbonation. Do I regret trading for this? Absolutely not! Any time you get the chance to trade for a rare limited release, you do it.

[919-20071205] 750mL (c/o DragonStout, w/ him, boboski, PhillyBeer2112, redlight). Bit of sweet chocolate roasted malt in the aroma. Dark dark brown body with quick off-white bubbles. Sweet coffee chocolate syrup flavour is a little burnt but not sickly. Medium-full body. Nice roasty brew.
