There was a small, off white head on it. The aroma is a bit weaker than I had expected, but still with pleasant notes of toffee and some other sweet maltiness. Some notes of coffee and roastiness to the tsate, with a decent medium malt body. Some alcohol taste. There is a hint of malt sweetness to the taste, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Not too bad. paul9639 (116), New Hampshire, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 1, 2005 Can’t believe this beer is rated so low! I am rating it high to compensate for the the harsh ratings.I t is actually around a 3.5. Though it is mis-classified as an American strong ale, this beer is a Belian Abbey ale clone. Dark brown, with a lacing head. aroma is sweet chocolate, with an alcohol overtone. Mouthfeel is chewy. Flavor is chocolate and toffe. Nice beer. BennyTicklez (621), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 30, 2005 Pours deep brown with an average head. Aroma is chocolatey and malty. Taste is somewhat interesting... big flavor.... metal, chocolate and some spice. Aftertaste lingers. This beer isn’t great, but i think it is underated on here. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 8, 2005 Bottle. Pours dark with a decent frothy head and a good lace. The head is easy to summon with a slight agitation. Strong burst of sweet malts in the nose when the bottle is opened. Upon further investigation, the aroma is pretty good, albeit a tad on the strange side. Belgian yeast is there in abundance along with sweet malts, molasses and a slight spicyness. It’s strange the the metal didn’t come out in the nose. I mean, the metallic taste of this is incredible. I guess there’s also some grassy hops, molasses , clove and more metal. To it’s credit, it sweetened a tad when it warmed and the metal subsided ... or all of my taste buds died. I’m not sure I’d classify this as an American Strong Ale ... to me, it’s more like a Belgian Strong Bock. Strange. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Pour is dark brown with a light tan head...smell is some light fruits, caramel, biscuity too...taste is sweet with lots of malt and some alcohol...doesn’t really seem like almost 8%...but it does indeed taste very metallic... | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jul 4, 2005 Poured a dark ruby with a fizzy off-white head. Interesting jumbled aroma of caramel, molasses, hops, touch of fruit. Taste is somewhat like a bock with dark fruit flavor. Lots of alcohol taste. Bitter, dry metallic flavor. Aftertaste is... well... just plain nasty. Starts out good, finishes just plain overdone. As I’m drinking this, the score is getting lower and lower. I should stop before it drops to "untouchable" status. kennyo (4), purdys, New York, USA does not count | 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/20 | Jul 4, 2005 12 oz bottle, was looking forward to something new from Coastal Extreme, I guess Im still looking.
