12.04.05 12oz bottle at HW open house. Brown and mostly clear stuff with an ample but quickly fading off white head. Aroma is sweet and bready with hints of canned green beans, dried apple. Mostly, this stuff tastes like grape nuts cereal to me, but with touches of mixed dried fruits (fig, apple, cherry), and an unsettling suggestion of canned beans. Not much notice of the high alcohol until a malt liquorish retronasal bite barks after the swallow. I guess this is supposed to be maibock?

Some biscuity malts and sweet, nutty marzipan are apparent beneath a thick boiled vegetable aroma. Clear ruby brown with low tan head that recedes to partial cover with some nice lacing. Vegetal, bean-like flavour with plenty of sugary sweetness, some notes of cocoa and fairly roasty finishing bitterness. Cloying sweetness builds as you drink. Medium body is ropey in texture with somewhat low carbonation. Bottle sampled with beerbuzzmontreal, ClarkVV, Goldorak, MartinT, muzzlehatch, Olivier_MTL, Rastacouere and Yowie.

Bottle number two that I’ve had now. And it still releases a putrid DMS aroma right upon uncapping. Further sniffs show smoked beef and pork, oily, warm cheddar cheese, light rotten veggies, old, wet, rotting mint plants. Caramel fits in there as well, though you can not help but note the DMS front and foremost. Flavor is not as dominated by rotten veggies, but there is still a strong undertone of it. Spoiled meat that’s been left out warm too long. It’s too bad too, because there is some well-done roasted malt, touches of smoke and sweet honey-caramel in there. Alcohol is well-concealed as well. Mouthfeel shows light carbonation, moderately loose bubbles. Retronasal has light smoke and roast, with just a hint of hops. Baked bean skins and veggies linger on the aftertaste. Some candied apples, cherries and toffee in there as well, but every time I try to drink more, the cringe-inducing veggie finish makes it not worth the well-malted beginning. Light lager yeast notes, definite pils malt, much like in the ’03. Not vinous, not very warming. Clear auburn-caramel, layers of bronze, beige and amber, to a dark mahogany in the center. Head recedes immediately to cover and then is gone in short time. To the drain.

Dark brown, with a decent amount of thick head.
Aroma of overcooked vegetables and permed hair...Smelled reminded me of a lunch lady that served me in junior high...
Caramel and toffee, it got way too cloying for me, especially at the end of my sample when it warmed up a bit more.

Pours a clear brown color with a thick offwhite head. Aroma of malt, toffee, fruits and vegetables. The flavor has the same elements, malt, toffee, fruits and veggies. The body is light with an oily texture and medium carbonation.

The Lure:
Caramel and roasted malt surround the black beans. Brown sugar is exposed through the malt, as fruitiness escapes the yeast. Smells authentic, but cannnot rouse any interest, save for the lingering head.

The Festivities:
A quiet mouthfeel is laid by the low carbonation level. Sweet caramel malts are introduced to a roasted finish, but they don’t exactly fall in love. All are there doing their job, but few are interested.

Transcendence:
Another lunch meeting.

2 x 12 oz bottles shared with Da Montreal Crew at Fantômes and More! tasting. Decent, acceptable light tan-cream head topping a thick dark brown body...caramel and a bit of ash, light dry herbs in the nose, a bit vegetal yes but not strongly so for me...sweet, simple corn/maple syrup body, again lightly herbal, touch smoky and perhaps astringent towards the finish. Nothing mindblowing but I liked this more than most of my compatriots at the tasting.

Clear medium brown pour topped by a shy white ring. DMS influenced, heavily vegetal nose, otherwise offering mostly a caramelized biscuity malts, dividing into earthy territories briefly while alcohol takes a considerable part in the flavour profile. Just as vegetal in mouth, a faint roastiness reminds of ashes and moves into obvious chalkiness in the finish. Light bodied, soft carbonation, airy palate. Going nowhere and not too well.
