Pours an interesting deep hazy yellow with a strong pure white head. Very piney and sharp smell, glorious. Every sip is up-front, pungant and amazingly hoppy. Maybe a little too much at times, but hop heads will love. Very very dry and bitter, over the top bitter and finishes with that sharp bite. Almost a little sour and yeasty interesting. Complex and yummiferious! fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA

The aroma is sweet, hop floural, frosting sweet smell, honey and spices. The taste on the palate is very bitter up front, but balanced with a honey, malty, sweetness. Only to be attacked with a grapefruit bitterness that finishes with a warming alcohal presence. Good DIPA, haven’t had a newport storm in awhile I will def be coming back to this one.

Hoppy sour and tasted like the wetlands in my backyard, but in a good way. Poured hazy yellow, nice white head. CaptainCougar (5517), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of pine and spruce hops has a touch of earthy malty sweetness. Body starts with good sweet crystal malty character and fresh piney green hoppy presence. Pretty good balance with some warming alcohol toward the finish. A decent double IPA, just nothing special. goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2006 Poured a mostly clear glowing amber color with a small white head. Sweet fruity aroma had notes of candy. Hops were light and there was some alcohol notes. Light citrus hop mixed in with the malt. It had a nice taste but tasted more of an IPA. Warming in the chest. The malt was a little short. Medium body. thornecb (1791), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

Slight chill haze. Citrus and pine notes. Up front citrus/dairy balance with sweet hop finish. Not sure about this one. Imperial taste....but too sweet to really be an IIPA... almost like a barleywine? OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA

Orange marmalade, butter(in a good way), tea, grapefruit, lime, cardboard. Ok head that faded to a ring, minor lacing. Bitter flavor, tart. Citrusy. Like aroma with grapefruit leading the way. Thicker bodycreamy viscous mouthfeel, Bitter finish. Good as an IPA, loses a notch as a IIPA DYCSoccer17 (2192), Davis, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2006 Bottle in a Single Blind tasting with Southern Tier Un*Earthly IIPA. More subdued aroma than the first beer with a bit of caramel in the nose and more grape fruity hopped aroma. Booze is also present in the nose. There is a light sweetness present as well. This aroma is also very medicinal. Mildly hazy light copper/orange color with a frothy off-yellowish head and a fair amount of lacing. Nice grapefruity hoppiness to start that is not overbearing. There are cerealy/grainy/toasted malts backing up this hoppiness. Booze is slight in the finish with more moderate floral hops to finish. More balanced and drinkable than the Southern Tier. Alcohol is more subdued. Decent, but the aroma needs some improvement.
