| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2007 Bottle. Pours reddish amber-black with a small tan head. The molasses in the aroma hit me as I poured it, before I brought it anywhere close to my face. There are also notes of prune, sweet chocolate, a faint hint of espress, and a little bit of orange zest. The flavor is prune, molasses, and pecan. A very mild woody bitterness comes out toward the finish, and lingers into the aftertaste with some pine notes. The sweet malty elements fade pretty fast. The alcohol is detectable after several sips. The mouthfeel is a little on the watery side, especially for an imperial stout. DYCSoccer17 (2192), Davis, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 6, 2007 12 ounce bottle delivered to me by mkgrenwel. thanks! I had had this past summer, but I failed to rate it because it was at a festival. Strange, burnt, purfumey aroma. Light chalky notes with some chocolate are also detected in the nose. This is a pretty weird, floral aroma for an imperial stout. Moderately transparent dark dark dark mahogany color with a mild to moderate hot-chocolate colored head. Sweet, roasty, chocolate maltiness to start. Very very herbal. I wish I knew what that was. It’s like perfumey or herbal essences or some shit. There is a good deal of roastiness here with some light anise later on. I definitely detect some booze as well. I don’t know, this is kind of bizarre and it doesn’t really appeal to me. bitbucket (2034), Kirkland, Washington, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2006 Brown sugar. Grainy. Pretty hot and boozy for only 8.7%. Creamy, but slightly over carbonated. A little hint of raisin and plum. Some definite grassy hops with some pineapple. Pretty good hoppy finish. A whole lot of roasty coffee. A little nutty flavor, possibly hazelnut like. Good round chewy mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness in the back. Pretty much everything is in line here. Great complexity. The only negative is that the flavors don’t all fit together quite right. Perhaps some time to blend is all that this needs to be a great beer. Dickinsonbeer (3483), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 28, 2006 Pours a very dark almost black with some tan/amber highlights and a thin tan fizzy head. Aroma is roasted malts, vanillla and chocolate, but is a bit weak and one-dimensional and isnt as robust as even some lesser abv stouts. Light flavor with a thin body allowing some alcohol thinning to come through, some chocolate hints, light roast and some toasted malts, slightly oxidation and a weak finish. Easy to drink and nothing really offensive though.
