Not much of an aroma at all, but one of the pretiest color reds I’ve seen, amazingly soft for a beer that’s 8.1, clean finish with a delicious light after taste. Lovely

Poured into a brandy snifter. Deep translucent amber colour with a white head that fades quick. Nice lacing all the way down. Smells of yeast and sour apple with the slightest hint of clove coming through. Tastes of sweet malt, dark fruit, and yeastyness. The booze is masked very well for an 8.1%er. Very easy drinking. Aftertatse sticks around for awhile due to the medium-heavy body. Good stuff.

Pours a five finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Almost clear amber color. Light carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Sweet malty nose. Flavor is sweet malt with raisins and spice. $1.50 for a 12oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Oregon City, Or.

EBF 2007: Clear copper color with an off white head. Aroma, fruity notes, and some yeast. Flavor, light fruits, some caramel sweetness, and some floral notes on the finish. Some light bitterness, pretty decent beer.

The instant you smell this you can tell its a Belgian Ale. I am very impressed how it really captures te scent, look, and even taste of a real Belgian beer. Deep dark maple amber color. Bright off white or tan head that quickly goes away except for around the ring. Smells sweet, flowery, belgian yeasty smell. Most of there non-annual beers have a similar tasting quality like all the Sam Adams have, but this one really stands out and is very different, i would guess they used ingrediants from a totally different company. Tastes very sweet, fruity - nuits, apricoty, and maybe smaller notes of bannana yeast, and a fruity sour-sweet finish. Creamy, fruity, soft mouth feel, very smooth and rich to drink. 8.7% is complete hidden and well done. I can go on and on, but i really am impressed at this micro-brew’s effort at this style beer, very good!

Smells kind of sour and funky, but in a good way. The flavor is more mild than other belgian styles that I’ve had but is pretty great. Wicked drinkable for the high alcohol content. Definately be getting this one again.

pours a nice cloudy reddish color. smells of spices some yeasts and a little tart. taste is quite nice for a beer with 8.1%, thick with some fruitiness. will have to revisit this one. did not realize that the Newport brews were somewhat rare.

Pours with an initial fat-two-finger thick, tan colored head that sits atop a dark, plum colored brew. The beer shows a hazy, light cranberry color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite fruit focused with notes of tart plums, tamarind, raisins and perhaps a touch of apples. When I go in for a deeper smell I definitely get some funky sour notes that remind me of a mix of vinegar and lactic acid. Somewhat reminiscent of Rodenbach classic, the beer also has a nice caramelized malt character & toasty grain notes that is found in the nose of that beer. The sour notes are very slight though, but they are quite persistent.

Sweet malt flavors mix with fruit flavors of plums, raisins, apples and prunes. The plum and apple notes definitely are accented by a slight tartness. While the fruit and tart notes are the most noticeable, there is a solid malt character to this brew as well. Flavors of caramel, some of the raisin notes, toasted grain and a touch of soda cracker flavors, these last two in the finish more than anything. The beer finishes with a mix of sweet fruit notes, a touch of malt character, some slight astringency and a lingering light sourness. This is an easy drinking brew with a medium fullness to it that is actually made a bit more drinkable by the persistent sour notes of lactic acid.

I wouldn’t necessarily bet the farm that this beer is infected with something other than you standard beer yeast, but it definitely has a lightly tart character to it and is most likely has some wild influence to it. I really enjoy the light tartness found in this brew as it adds another layer of complexity to this brew. Quite a tasty brew, definitely a nice mix of sweet malt, fruit and a lightly sour funkiness (intended or not).
