Bottle, thanks Kristi. Dark golden brown, small white head. Chocolate, sweet malt aroma. Taste is very sweet malt with alcohol and more chocolate. No smoke as expected from style. Sweet hoppy finish. Great Scotch ale minus smoke.

Dec 10, 2009 12oz bottle @Pauls Gathering Thanks microgrog-pours a thin off white head and copper color. Aroma is mild medium malt-peat/toffee, some earthy hops. Taste is medium malt-peat/toffee, some earthy hops. OK carbonation.

Nov 24, 2009 Bottle Shared at Ryan & Max’s Tasting @ Pauls. Pours a light brune body with an off white head. Mothy oxidation of the hops, scotch y wooden tones amongst some caramel and dry earth and char. Decent ale.

Nov 22, 2009 Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours a clear ruby brown with a thin white head. Caramel, slightly oxidized malt. Kind of gross, rusty tasting malt.

Nov 9, 2009 12oz Bottle, purchased at Haxton Liquors - West Warwick, RI. Interesting and unique spiced bread aroma. I’m trying to remember what it’s reminding me of, but I can’t touch on it. Something slightly exotic maybe middle eastern, backed with a good bit of caramelized malt, strong. Pours a clearish ruby-brown, with a lacy off-white head. Flavor is rich and deep, with well-roasted malts adding a bit of umami over the sweetness of caramelized malt sugars. Reasonably complex. Body is chewy and fulfilling, but not sticky. Hops brighten up the finish. There’s a faint bit of house yeast that’s not the best and the malt quality may flag a little in the backend, but otherwise this is a darn nice scotch ale.

Glass:Fullers snifter.
Appearance:Clear dark amber pour with a thin tan head.
Aroma:Caramel, chocolate, nuts and a hint of vanilla.
Flavor:Heavy chocolate and nuts with a smokey finish.
Palate:Full body with solid carbonation.
Overall:Pretty nice scotch ale. Loved the heavy chocolate.

Aug 29, 2009 12oz bottle, thanks to Summer Secret Santa. Pours slightly hazy amber brown, capped with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, chocolate, and earth. Chocolate hits the palate first and is the predominant flavor. Nuts, caramel, peat and earthy flavors meld nicely with the chocolate. Alcohol builds towards the finish. Flavorful and very easy to drink. I really enjoyed this.

Jun 16, 2009 Pours brown with a thin tan head. Smells of sweet malt, molasses, earth, brown sugar, peppery. Tastes sweet and sticky with a spicy hint on the finish.
