Smells of raisins, caramel, toasted bread and peat. Taste is of dark fruits and caramel with a very pleasant smokiness. There is a mild hop bitterness that follows the strong malt flavors, which helps to balance the overal beer.
(The aroma and maltiness becomes even stronger as this beer wramed in my glass).
I enjoyed this very much and certainly is a malty, strong beer, that has a pleasant and not overpowerimg smokiness.

Pours slightly hazy amber brown, capped with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, chocolate, and earth. Chocolate hits the palate first and is the predominant flavor. Nuts, caramel, peat and earthy flavors meld nicely with the chocolate. Alcohol builds towards the finish. Flavorful and very easy to drink. I really enjoyed this. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 9, 2009 12oz Bottle, purchased at Haxton Liquors - West Warwick, RI. Interesting and unique spiced bread aroma. I’m trying to remember what it’s reminding me of, but I can’t touch on it. Something slightly exotic maybe middle eastern, backed with a good bit of caramelized malt, strong. Pours a clearish ruby-brown, with a lacy off-white head. Flavor is rich and deep, with well-roasted malts adding a bit of umami over the sweetness of caramelized malt sugars. Reasonably complex. Body is chewy and fulfilling, but not sticky. Hops brighten up the finish. There’s a faint bit of house yeast that’s not the best and the malt quality may flag a little in the backend, but otherwise this is a darn nice scotch ale. emerica56 (581), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 24, 2008 Pours a dark brownish black with a thin head. The aroma is smokey with some hints of oak and a roasted malt blended with floral hops. It has a nice texture on the palate as you take your first sip, it has an initial hop bite with smokey roasted finish. The booze is not that well masked in this particular cyclone. The carbonation is nicely done which is an impressive plus compared to the 07. Overall it is a great scotch ale with good flavor and a nice blend or spice and hops.
