goldtwins (3672), Nesconset, New York, USA Apr 12, 2008 Poured a clear deep ruby color with a small off-white head. The aroma was roasty with some cocoa and some sweetness. Hint of smoky ash. Toast roast flavor with some notes of cola. Light to medium bodied with a semi-dry finish.
Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with an off tan head. Aroma/flavor is chocolate sweet malt and is sweet the whole way through. A little warming in the flavor but the whole thing just tastes off. eh. jjpm74 (2722), Connecticut, USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours brown with a thin pinkish head. Smells of chocolate, sweet malt. Tastes earthy with a sweet finish. One finger of rather sturdy tan head. Aroma is a little tough to pinpoint but seems like brown sugar with some licorice. Mouthfeel medium-full. Nice sturdy sheets of lacing. Flavor is kind of brown sugar and licorice and then as it warms some chocolate and coffee. Kind of has an odd light sourishness to it but not a this-may-be-infected sourishness. This is a little bit of a mess overall, kind of a hodgepodge. blklab2007 (498), Connecticut, USA Jun 18, 2008 bottle poured a nutty red brown color with a big thick two finger head that left a fat pillow on the top. carbonation is low and the glass was coated with foam as it was drank. aroma has lightly roasted malt, earth, dark chocolate, and brown sugar sweetness. mouth feel is medium light with some syrupy coating. flavor has smoked malt, over ripe dark fruit, caramel, and a touch of sourness. slightly off the beaten path with this brewer making for an interesting surprise. Alldaydrinker (448), Norwood, Massachusetts, USA Apr 24, 2008 Pours a hazy ruby brown color with a small offwhite head. Nose is mild with hints of cocoa and roasted malts. Initial mouth feel is light bodied with touch syrup texture. Initial taste of roasted malts, cream, mollasses and cocoa. Mid palate of mild fruits. Finishing with roasted and balancing hop palate that is above average. A very simple american strong ale. Easy drinking, alcohol is well masked. Good session beer. Minor head retention.
