mjs (1446), Helsinki, Finland Oct 29, 2009 (Bottled) Poured amber and hazy with small white head. Malts and hops were in the aroma. Medium bodied palate with medium carbonation. Clear hop flavour. Also tasted of malts, sweetness, bitterness and lightly sea water. Malty and hoppy aftertaste. halfonit (423), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Sep 22, 2009 Golden amber color. Aroma is pretty weak. It consists of malts, orange, toffee, and a little roasty. Taste is of sweeter malts, caramel, apricots, with hops in the back end. Leaves a little bit of a bite in the end. This seems to be one of the better brews from Newport Storm. dagimp (108), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 30, 2009 From a bottle into a pint glass. Pours with an inch of fairly thick head which sticks around. Lacing is present although not heavy. Very nice dark golden hue which is accented by the thick head. Taste is slightly hoppy with a slight bit of pine. It grew on me a little more as I drank it but it’s really nothing to write home about. I’d pass on this one unless it was the cheapest micro at the bar. BroSpud (584), , Massachusetts, USA Jul 15, 2009 On draft (at a Newport restaurant of course). Pretty tasty beverage. Nice amber color. Tasty caramel flavors. Very drinkable. Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Jun 16, 2009 An overall solid beer. Rich, thick head and strong, dark copper color. Taste is suggestive of caramel and toffee. Smooth with just enough complexity to keep it interesting. I wish this brew was more widely distributed. dkachur (2318), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 30, 2008 12 ounce bottle courtesy of beerbill. Thanks! Pours a hazy
orange color with a thin head, decent head retention and lacing.
Very nutty aroma with some toffee and caramel notes as well.
Taste is nuts, sunflower, some light stone fruit notes and
bitter hops. Medium bodied. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 29, 2008 Bottle that exploded when it was opened. Pours an amber body with a gushing off white head. Spicy caramel sweetness with a salty flavor. Dusty earth flavors to finish. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Dec 16, 2008 Best by date June; Sampled December 2008
A solid pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces an initial two-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is exceedingly clear and is a reddish, amber-gold color that shows a bright copper color when held up to the light. The aroma is a mix of expressive citrus hop notes and crystal malt aromatics. Some other notes of metallic, lightly herbal hops join aromas of grapefruit zest, tangelo, lightly toasted grain (sort of biscuit like), and a touch of sweet caramel maltiness.
Pretty dry tasting and actually a bit lighter than I was expecting. The citrus hops seem to add a touch of tartness due to the overall dryness of this beer. Meyer lemon zest character comes through in the flavor more than the juicy, ripe, slightly sweet citrus notes that were noticeable in the aroma. The beer has a nice, clean, biting bitterness that is noticeable from the beginning to lingering end of each sip. The finish has a nice cracker like malt to it at times, but at others comes off as thin and tart.
Not bad, but a bit weird somehow. I don’t think there is quite enough malt to support the hops here and the tartness is a bit odd; I don’t think it is an infection as this beer is pretty clean over all.
