Malty and spicy tasting. Its from New England--New England love baby. A bit watery. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Molasses aroma, similar to the Maelstrom IPA, but not as hoppy or strong. Virtually no visible carbonation. Amber body and almost no head. White to slightly off white head and no lace. Malty flavor with a faint amount of hops. Could pass for an Oktoberfest. Not much different in character from Leinie’s O’Fest. Nice flavor. Not all that exciting, but no flaws. The wee bit of hops keep it interesting. I don’t like the commercial description, which makes it appear like heavy body and bitterness are bad things. With a name like Newport Storm Hurricane Amber Ale, those are characteristics you might actually expect, but don’t get, from this beer. Kinz (2207), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 26, 2004 Not usually an amber fan, but this was more along the lines of an APA. Light orange with a well structured, lasting head. Aroma of biscuits and pineapple, quite hoppy. Biscuit oriented malts, with a pleasant bitterness. Fruity initial pineapple gives way to more earthy notes as the beer warms. Balanced. Good stuff, reminds me in some ways of Rogue’s Brutal Bitter. Norton (296), The Fan, Richmond, Virginia, USA

Somewhat lighter going down and less filling than a lot of these ambers. Kind of hoppy. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA

Beautiful lacing on the mug as I drank. A nice mix of malt and hops. Very refreshing and delicious with the cajun chicken I had it with. I am impressed with the folks at Coastal Extreme. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2004 Pours a ruby splashed amber with a dense medium tanned head. Aroma is nicely hopped but contains enough sweetened malt to balance it out. Light spices intermingle with the hops. Taste is slightly sweetened with lighter caramel and sweet malt flavors. Subtle hop flavor comes through in the back. Palate is full but not overwhelming. It won’t leave you bloated. Decent carbonation and mild bitterness. Finish is lightly spiced and bittered with more caramel coming through. Good beer! This would make a great session beer!
