Pine-dry finish. kmweaver (2501), Sebastopol, California, USA

Pours a dark, cherry-cola color; fluffy white head with intricate lacing. Light aroma: hints of nougat and caramel, roasted malts. Light carbonation, light mouthfeel: roasted malts, milk chocolate - but not much else until the end. Very, very drinkable. Medium finish, showing bitter and milk chocolate. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 16, 2006 Dark brown and scarcely carbonated. Lots of hops for a porter. Smells more like a brown ale than a poter. Caramel and sweet malty nose. Taste is similar, but a little watered down. Taste is slightly nutty and has a faint roasted quality. Not bad, but when I want a porter, this one won’t cut it. CaptainCougar (5544), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 23, 2006 Pours a nearly opaque dark brown with a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Sweet cocoa and caramel malty aroma has a touch of green hops and some fruitiness. Body starts with a nice light almost aged, malty sweetness with a touch of toasted nuttiness. Has some characteristics of an early infection, but there really isn’t much sourness to speak of. Just a fairly authentic British style porter. Thanks to kramer17801 for the bottle! | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 22, 2006 Julios Spring Beer Festival. Light aroma of faint chesnut. Pour of clear mahogany. Flavor is watery and fairly indistinct bland roasted malt, with a touch of brown sugar, molasses and aged cheese rind. The backend gives way to some light apple fumes. Overall, not that exciting. kramer (2530), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2006 12 oz bottle, via OldGrowth. Pours a medium brown body, clear, under a fizzy two finger beige head that faded quickly. Chocolate malt nose with some roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is a little grainy and rough with chocolate and burnt malt. A subtle bitterness in the finish helps cover a little of the husky grainy character. Mouthfeel is a little thin with a more active carbonation level than I prefer. Not the best beer, but certainly drinkable. Overall, just a little too weak and thin. porterhouse (1164), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 30, 2006 (Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pours a not too dark coffee brown with a tan head. Aroma is mild coffee, chocolate and strangely, honey. Lots of weepy lacing. Mouthfeel is smooth, full, creamy, with some prickliness in finish. Flavor is kind of muddled but seems like cocoa and coffee, but there is a grassiness and also a soapiness (don’t think it’s coming from my glass) present, particularly in finish, which kind of interferes. Soapiness lingers in aftertaste. Can’t rate it very high for flavor.
