Roasted, burnt sugar nose with some banana. Flavours, bananas and caramel, fizzy and crisp while being medium bodied. Nice balance of the alcohol. Some yeastiness. Roasted flavours come out with strawberry and maple syrup. Not bad at all. Head lasts though-out. It has a nice warming glow. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 31, 2004 I've always loved this beer - although there was a time back in the 90s that it was to be sought after at any cost, not just enjoyed as an easy drinking beer. Sweet nose and flavour but balanced enough to not be too sweet. Lingering aftertaste has a slightly hoppy and nutty taste. Definitely a solid beer and always worth picking up - especially because it might one day match the glory days when it was a beer to be remembered. BillPierce (18), Burlington, Ontario, Canada

The flavor is malty but also with more fruity esters than are appropriate for a lager. I suspect it is fermented with an ale yeast strain. The bittering is somewhat higher than would be expected for a bock and the alcohol content, while significant, is not as high as in the German eisbocks. It does have the full body and smoothness characteristic of the style, however, and is a pleasant drinking experience.

Dictionary definition of amber. Clear lager with a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. Great retention and decent lacework.
The nose is of caramel and winter spices.
Perfectly balanced flavor. Caramelly and spicey with a burst of butterscotch. Well-bittered. Full-bodied with medium carbonation and a medium-length, moderately bitter finish. Great brew! World class stuff! joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 16, 2003 2003. Bright dark umber. Off-white head. Toasty, slightly fruity aroma of caramel & toffee. Medium, creamy feel. Decent toasty caramel flavour w/ notes of pepper, licorice & vanilla. A little young. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 3, 2003 Clear chestnut body topped by big beige head. Aroma is malty sweet, caramel, cherry. Taste lacks sweetness, some sour, light cherry. Medium full body, but somewhat watery. Very underwhelming. Andrew196 (1091), Katy, Texas, USA

Anyways, the beer had a very malty aroma with notes of barnyard and apples. Not very true to the style....a bit too sour in my opinion. Very well masked ABV. I'll leave it. joet (1708), Fulton, California, USA
