[430-20070721] Tap @ Select Bistro (Toronto, ON). Sweet malt aroma with a bit of fruit berries, strawberries. Clear, dark brown amber body with slow small bubbles and a long-lasting foamy off-white head. Light berry fruit continues in flavour with sweet malt. Medium-full body. Very fresh, wonderful on the patio.

Bottle. Average fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Fair lacing. Clear sparkling body with an amber color. Aroma was caramel, grain, wheat, fruit, light burned notes with some nutty and rye bread notes as well. Full bodied with a lively carbonation and alcoholic texture. Moderated sweet flavor with light burned bitterness. Somewhat fruity decent.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Sammy. Clear, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Sweetish, lightly caramelish nose. Full body, soft mouthfeel with sweetish notes of caramel and a little alcohol. Sweetish finish. Clean and decent and I don’t get any of the vegetable notes of former raters, it’s just a bit bland and doesn’t really kick ass. 160607

Oh my...cooked cabbage, overcooked vegetables, and mix that in with a bit of sweet malt - ick! Well, it didn’t taste quite as bad as it smells - fruity sweet malts, sugary, dry finish. (thanks for sharing, ATL people)

My sample was from the 2006 brewing purchased as the 2007 release Had a marvelous clear reddish-brown color with a 2 finger creamy head that lasted then went to a Belgian lace half way through the glass. Aromas are not powerful but substantial....plumbs, raisins, spice, sweet cookie dough malt tones with some spent yeast smells and a grassy twang from the hops. The body is substantial without appearing "thick" to the palate...rich chewy, full of sweet malt and spicey complexity then finishes up very mellow where the hop "herbalness" takes over and there is a sweet bready after taste balanced with a slight metallic note. The overall impression is that this beer is smooth (probably the result of the ice process) I’m glad I bought some to cellar..this is the best year since 2004.>>>>>>>>>>>& release The least "eisbock-like" of all the NFB releases 750ml bottle Pour puts a very light amber-copper lager in the glass with a decent 3 finger sticky rocky cap...decent sticky lacing...lightest color I have ever seen for this beer. Aroma is more lager-bready and malty with less cocoa-roast smells..no hopsom the nose. Not a very complex lager...nice malt rush in the front side but it hasn’t the intense dried fruit or roast tastes or herbal woodiness one expects in an eisbock....finish is lager-like with some "off" tastes from poor yeast attenuation...I got a distinct "celery" taste in the finish...not NFB’s finest hour.

Red in colour, fizzy, thick, lacing head. Sweet wheaty smell. Tastes "sharp" & sweet with a slight malty undertone. Very nice.
