Draught @ West 50, Mississauga, ON: Came dark amber, excellent thick white head that coated the entire glass all the way down. Incredible. Sweet aroma, very malty, some fruity elements but nothing dominant. The flavour is very nutty, malty, rich in alcohol, albeit subtle for 8%. I was pleasantly surprised, they’ve done a great job with this one.

Bottle: Poured a medium burgundy color beer with a nice medium foamy light brown head with better then average retention. Aroma of sweet dry fruits such as plums and figs. Taste is also dominated by dry fruits such as figs and plums with a nice a generous malt presence and some subtle warming alcohol. Body is slightly thin for the style with some good carbonation. While this is a good example of a style that I see too rarely it is slightly less complex then the top beer of the style.

(Rating #804)

2005 bottle. Almost clear dark copper body with a medium off-white head. Sour grapes on the nose. Taste is rather bland, not very tasty at all. Watery, red grapes, a touch of caramel, limited malt presence, no hops. Insipid. The commercial description above states “…a must for the collector”. Oh, I get it, it was’t meant to be drunk. Bland

2006 vintage. aroma is of raisins and plums, very nice and fruity, lots of sweetness. Flavor is a bit of a let down. Very malty, and the sweetness fades out, and looses itself. I prefered the 2005 much better, it was quite hoppy, and the sweetness was always there throughout. Nice packaging, but a little pricey at $10.

75cl bottle, Shelburne. Nice beer, but a tad pricey, may opt for twice as much Creemore Urbock for the price however.
