2004 750mL generously given by Sammy. Consumed on 9/20/2005. Ruddy-amber to garnet colored body. Clear, with huge amounts of medium-sized bubbles rising to create a one-finger head of a yellowish-cream color. Aroma of raisins, fresh barley, toffee, caramel, hint of lightly tart vinousness on the end. An odd, almost dull/dirty metallic smell is faintly perceived. Aroma is, altogether, quite weak. Good bock character though in the nose. Lots of liquid bread/sugary malt. Head is creamy/pillowy. Immediate flavor is the best, IMHO. Bocky wine-like character, cherries, dates, rum raisins and a lovely, soft, gentle mouthfeel of fine carbonation. Tapers off a good amount in flavor, drying out a good deal and adding a touch of wateriness. No hops, or a maybe a touch on the end actually. Dirty, nutrient rich yeast notes on the finish. Caramel and cherry-vanilla iced-cream flavors in the middle with slight, slight breadiness trailing off. Medium body, not sticky or thick. Certainly very light relative to style. Doppelbock in character. No alcohol noted. Good amount of lacing. I really prefer this stuff less as it warms up, as it gets weaker in flavor. Light yeast is pleasant and the body is so easygoing and drinkable. I’ll have finished this 750 in about 15 minutes. Some dry licorice and walnut skin on end as it warms. No sediment on the bottom.

2004 vintage. Dense large off-white head. Good lace. Amber color. Toffee aroma. Notes of biscuits. Then herbs come through. Barnyard. Sharp herbal, hoppy and roasted flavors. Bitter, hoppy aftertaste. One would expect a full and sticky body, yet its rather dry and medium. A special beer, would not make you bored.

Bottled, 2004 vintage. Toffee, raisin and herbal aroma. Brown color, beige firm head, very nice lace. Sweet, raisin, light toffee, bitter, very herbal hops, dry in the finish. Like a mix between a english style red ale and a german bock.

Sampled at the 2005 RBSG. This was a 2004 bottle I think. Copper color with a thin, egg shell colored head. Nose of bread and alcohol. I thought it was thin for an eisbock. The flavors reminded me of white wine and honey, but it was so light and thin that there wasn’t much to it.

RBSG ’05 - slightly bitter aroma, with hints of caramels. strange as it sounds, this aroma reminded me more of my old gym locker than anything. the pour was a medium brown color with a thin lacing on top, with a flavor of grass and apple cider. a bit harsh on the tail end, the abv was evident, and the viscosity was pretty low (read: watery). not at all comparable to other eisbocks in either body or flavor.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry. Pours a clear reddish brown with a small off-white head. Slightly skunky aroma (stupid green bottles) of sweet malt, light hops and sugar. Flavour of sugar, malt caramel and light alcohol is much too sweet for me. Mildly bitter, the alcohol is too present and a metallic aftertaste that I did not care for at all. Dissapointing.

Very light color with a very thin head. Sweet and cidery smell, apples, some malt, and a bit of diacetly. Slick mouthfeel. Sweet flavor with some maltiness, but the alcohol shows through. Harsh finish and a very light body.
