boboski (1095), USA Dec 20, 2007 Crystalline amber body, very pretty. A thin near-white head recedes to wispy foam and a ring at the edge. The nose is of toasted grains, plastic and sweet greenery(not vegetal, in an offensive expression). Carboard and broccolli make gleeful appearances too. This is not winning me over. Moderate grassy hoppiness saves this from complete disaster, as well as the fact that alcohol is very well-concealed. The flavor is much better, but it’s still nothing I’ll be seeking out in the future. sweetness is mild, bitterness is low-mild and steady. Cereal grain notes are plentiful and pretty tasty. The finish is mildly spicy and mildly hoppy, cereal and oxidation lingering. The mouthfeel is lifeless and light-medium bodied, uninteresting.
sliffy (1951), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 17, 2008 Shared at Cleveland tasting 3/15 Bottle: Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Aroma, brown sugar, caramel, sweet malty notes, some earthiness. Flavor, floral notes, earthy dark fruits, caramel and brown sugar, some roasted notes. brewandbbq (228), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jan 7, 2008 Vintage 2005
Pours dark amber with a tight and dense white head. A slight chill haze in the body beneath the half-inch of head.
Aromatics are clean with light malt. Not much going on except some wet cardboard notes, and light roast.
Mouthfeel is medium and somewhat spritzy, fairly light and crisp.
The pallet is light on the malt for an Eisbock, and dry. Some mild toasted malt steps forward with wet brown paper. Alcohol is warming but this not significant in any way.
Bitterness is balancing and the beer is quite clean except for the obvious oxidation.
Finishes quick and crisp.
Dissapointing compared the 1994 vintage in the cellar.
Akin to an "Eisbock-light"
Sanchex (218), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Jan 5, 2008 750ml bottle that I didn’t mean to age for a year. I bought it but never got around to drinking it or just didn’t feel like drinking it. Now I wish I had a few more on hand. Toasted nuts, bread, raisins in the aroma. Flavour is a little more straightforward with a malty flavour and sweet finish. Bready/raisiny taste lingers on the tongue. The 8% is well hidden. Very drinkable. Cheers!| TheCheeseMan (509), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2007 Poured a nearly crystal clear maple syrup, the lower grade, dark stuff. Aroma is odd, sweet sticky malts, Quaker oat containers, bobo gets broccolli, I get a cabbage-like note, some hops seem to be there as well, but are very muted. Flavor is a touch stronger, with the roasted grains coming forth. I spite thee, oh green bottle.
