Commercial Description:
This full-bodied, dark ale, styled after British ales, is more assertive and darker than traditional Canadian ales. A blend of roasted malts from Canada and Great Britain create an brew that's smooth and rich with a subtle darker flavor.

From my friend up North matt - thanks: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass with a really nice size, nice colored head. A dark copper color with a nice full-body like aroma of malt. A lighter taste but well balanced. After it stuck around for a bit the flavor really started to develop or better yet, I guess it stuck around. Impressed. If I could get it here this could be a nice drinker.

341 ml bottle from a 6’er from the LCBO. pours amber with a nice tight white head. aromas are at first not present but after some warming nice malts come through. flavours are malty as well but not caramel or chocolate. breadiness flavours but no hops are present. very light bodied and easy to drink. i would not have guessed this was 5.5% from the flavour or mouthfeel. ok on the verge of being good. im glad i still have 5 more.[P] i tried this at cellar temp and it is much better then my first rating. the malts are much more pronounced and enjoyable. tonight it would have been 8,4,8,4,14 is equal to 3.8 so i will balance the 2 ratings.

Dec. 2006 - Beer poured dark brownish copper color with minimal head and lacing. The aroma was like burnt caramel. The flavor was really malty sweet biscuitness (is that a word?) with very little hopping to balance. The mouthfeel was oily and not pleasant...undercarbonated and cloying. Wasn’t great.

341ml bottle, 5.5% a/v Pours a deep copper colour with a smallish tan head. Aromas are fruit (raspberry?) dark malt, toffee and some spice. The taste is very clean, nice roasted malts and a very pleasing fruit (once again, raspberrys) backing. The aftertaste is also a nice smooth sweet malt and fruit finish. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty good beer!

bouteille (plusieurs) grande ale, plus foncée que les pale ale traditionnel, plus vers les ales d’irlande. une des meilleurs ales brassées au canada, rien à voir avec les ales de mégas-brasseurs.

Bottle. Limpid amber body with good carbonation and a fair white foamy head. Rather thin malty/hoppy aroma with light oaky and bready notes. Its hoppy taste carries some roasted malt hints and ends with a short bitter finish. Unfortunately, it also leaves a CO2/metallic-like aftertaste. OK, but not that impressive.

33 cl bottle, Shelburne. Deep copper colour, very frothy head, malty aroma with a hint of spice. Full mouth feel, malt comes through well and spiciness on the finish. Very long finish, lingering sweet spices, quite a surprising and nice end.
