Lots of nice flavours. Brown sugar, raisin, vanilla, cream. Grass and earth in the middle. Later on some Maple syrup, and apple cider cinnamon. Finish leaves me thirsty for another. Good ale. Carmel sweet flavor with a nice aroma. It’s a nice brew. maeib (4776), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 7, 2004 On tap - Bow and Arrow Toronto. Brown coloured beer with a bitter aroma and flavour like an English beer, but also notes of blackberries. Not a bad beer at all. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 2, 2004 Updated: Apr 12, 2005This is one of the local beers that has been a staple for me for years now. Easy drinking and flavourful. This easy-on-the-eyes copper coloured beer offers up malty and spicy aromas to entice you. Caramel sweet malts and some really faint hops precede a nice lingering finish that is mostly mouth-coatingly sweet but features some really mild bitterness. Not sure it should be considered an English Strong Ale but it is worth trying. caledonian (367), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 23, 2004 Dark copper color, decent head but disipates quickly. Hoppy, earthy aroma. Some malts in the taste. Slighty tangy. TChrome (1303), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2003 Aroma is all Marzen style to me. Appearance is underwhelming. Light copper color with almost completely diminishing off white head. Flavor is just kinda there. A mild malt flavor, some mustiness, just a touch of bitterness in the finish more typical of the bitter style. I wonder about this being in the English Strong Ale style. Decent brew. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 17, 2003 Brown color with just a slight hue of orange. Bone colored smallish head. Aromas of caramel, aged hops and corn silage. Thin tasting Some mild malt, but because of the thinness in character the hops come out early and make this one taste more like a beer hops tea. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 3, 2003 Pours a clear copper color with a thin off-white head. Cereal (cheerios) aroma. Medium body, with sweet caramel and cheerios flavor. Immediately reminded me of another beer I've rated...and finally it came to me. Goose Island Kilgubbin Red Ale. Gritstone has some characteristics of amber ales too. A nice surprise hiding in the bottom of the shipment CaptainCougar sent me!
