| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2003 Pours a clear copper ruby color with a thin lacing eggshell head. Thick caramel toffee malt aroma. Smooth malty body has a light bitterness throughout. Don't really know if this qualifies as an English strong ale, but it's a decent malty full-bodied, yet smooth, brew. Ringo (959), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2003 A good balance (there's that word again) of malt and hops make this beer ever so slightly above average for the style. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 11, 2003 The beer pours a scintillatingly clear mahogany color; the head modest in size, frothy in texture and a nice light tan color, as it dissipates the lace left behind forms a concealing sheet upon the glass. Nose is mostly malt, sweet, fresh and clean, pleasant enough as aroma's go, with the start malt laden and somewhat sweet, the top skeletal in feel. Finish has a minimal carbonation with the hops spicy and persistent till the somewhat bitter end. A drinkable beer, not a bad beer, not a good beer, I’d say average fits bill. jaymobrown (1360), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2003 Tasted at TFOB. Dark colour, with nice white head and good lacing. Nice big malt taste, sweet and rich. Pretty good stuff. JohnBarleycorn (394), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 8, 2003 While the Niagara Falls Brewing Company’s beers have gone through numerous tweaks in formulation over the years, Gritstone has proved to be a reliable, well-produced constant. The 08/08/03 version shows lots of sweetness in the bouquet: caramel, malt, brown sugar and white chocolate. Surprisingly, the sweetness is quite shy on the palate. While some caramel can be coaxed out of the middle, this ale begins and finishes quite bitter and wooden, with a pleasant alcoholic weight to back it all up. An impressive English-style ale that would blend nicely with pot roast, both in the gravy and in the glass.
