Aromas of subdued nuts and caramel. Mouthfeel is meduim bodied with accets on carmelized malts which give a syrupy smei-sweet impression because of the oily texture (very nice) while the hops take a back seat...finish is surprisingly clean and you can taste the hops afterward...another nice mellow brew from NFB beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2004 Color is a dark golden brown with flashes of clear amber hitting the edges. Small cap of dark ivory foam dawns teh top for a brief stay until it fades down to a hazey skim which remained present for a good portion of the glass and the lace is spotty. Smell ain’t much for an Old Ale, slight dull hay smell and small bit of chocolate and caramel. Taste is a bit slow to progress, some caramel and chocolate make a bit of an appearance over a slight, very dull hay-like hop stingeyness, no bitterness though. Feel is smooth and quite light, a shy body under medium overall. Drinkable but lacking a good amount of depth, body, structure, length, and taste. Meager at best with an averageness one shot over par. jerc (3923), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2004 Bottle. Dark reddish brown pour with a beige head. Muted aroma is nutty and sweetly malty. Malty nutty sweetness is comes and goes too quickly and leaves little for the slightly watery finish. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2004 Bottle. Poured light brown head, quickly dissipated. Aroma is sweet - caramel malt, nutty. Deep dark brown appearance. Taste is all malt at first, sweet caramel at the end. Not much of a long finish, hops barely noticeable. Could not tell this was "strong" at all, which was a good thing in this case. I really liked this one; I see some think it used to be better - I’m sorry I missed it then, but am happy with it in its present form. Nice surprise. Sammy (4012), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 25, 2004 A fine beer. Niagara has gone down over the years. Somewhat bitter with a hint of peat moss like a scotch. Beer Snob (382), Ontario, Canada

Smooth, fairly full bodied ale. Most recent tasting left a weakly bitter aftertaste. Seemed drabber than I remembered. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 1, 2004 Another Ontario beer that somehow has lost its way....Rich brown/copper colour with a big but quickly dissipating head. Aromas of spice and malt and a little syrupy sweetness. Same for the flavour - although a little more caramel and a little less thick bitterness than it could (used to) have. Still, not bad. An enjoyable Ontario ale.
